I just finished the Obsidian Trilogy (The Outstretched Shadow, To Light a Candle, and When Darkness Falls), and....
Fuckballs. I loved it. Sometimes I hate myself.
I even loved that fucktard Kellen, though I still don't think he's a very convincing main character. Seriously, he's like Vaan in Final Fantasy XII. All the other characters are more interesting, they all have more complicated backstories and more difficult motivations, but for SOME REASON they focus on this one blond dude.
I even liked the little hand-wave they stuck in at the end where ____ isn't REALLY dead, just reincarnated (and wtf betrothal in the cradle??? THIS ISN'T TWILIGHT). Fuck it all, I love _____ too much to wish....hir....a long life alone.
I don't know why I'm protecting spoilers. It's not like anyone else has read these. Mercedes Lackey is definitely good at climaxes, though, and I think she's gotten better at building suspense over the years.
Well, I guess I'm finally done with them, this odd little triad of books in which I wasn't terribly invested, though I did eventually get quite hooked. Now to more immersive books!! I'll just go through the books I got from the library and-----------------------------------JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.
THERE'S A TRILOGY OF SEQUELS??????????????
FUCK.
