Yes, I go wool-shopping in L.A. in the summertime.

Hola from Lala land!  Yep, I'm in L.A. and hanging out with my family down here--especially (exclusively) my aunt Hallie, uncle Benn, cousin Max, and of course Sonora, who is also around.  Any typing errors can be chalked up to me having to deal with a laptop keyboard, which I loathe so very, very much.  Also, EDDIE IZZARD IN THREE HOURS!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!

In exchange for fixing my aunt's computer for fucking hours yesterday, I have procured 4oz lovely soft purple roving, 2oz in a colorway I call "Sunset," and 50 grams of pencil roving, as well as a set of ZOMG LANTERN MOON ROSEWOOD SOX STIX.  Not that I'm excited about it, or anything.  I also bought myself a dreamy skein of yarn by "Kalaidescope," in I don't know what colorway but it has purples and greens and pinks and my heart and soul.  SOMEONE PLEASE STOP ME.  I DON'T HAVE MUCH MONEY.

Speaking of landing myself further in debt, I also managed to procure a pattern for a GORGEOUS afghan at "La Knitterie Parisienne."  It's intricately cabled and delicious and oh god yes.  The only occasion I can think of to make it for is Liz's wedding, so that's what I want to do.  She and Robert aren't officially tying the knot until next June, so I have lots of time, and it's knitted in panels, so it won't be the craziest thing I've ever done, nor the most difficult.  It's even knitted on size 9s, so there's not much haha poke my eyes out immediately.

Now, I have a quandry.  If I buy the recommended yarn from the pattern, it's going to be about $350.  If I substitute a middle-of-the-road yarn like Cascade 220 with better yardage, It's going to be about $145.  If I substitute a much much cheaper yarn like Knitpicks Wool of the Andes, which is way cheap but comes in very small balls (and I hear doesn't do so well with age), It's going to be about $120.

IF ON THE OTHER HAND I SPIN MY OWN.  Firstly, I get the fun of spinning.  Secondly, if I buy $80 worth, I'll have almost a pound left over afterwards.  Jesus, it's so much cheaper.  Of course, I'll have to take my spinning wheel to college--or, I should say, it gives me another excuse to bring my spinning wheel to college. Of course, saving money comes with a price, which will probably be any sort of a social life (I'll not only be spinning all the time, I'll also smell like sheep almost constantly) this next semester, but eh, I'm not that social at college anyway.  There's also the chance I'll be sick of the yarn by the time I need to knit it.  I know, it's not a large chance, but there you go.

So, a poll!
