Last week, Alex Vergara of the Philippine Daily Inquirer emailed me, asking for input in a compilation he's doing for the paper. He asked for the 5 things I learned from my dad

1) women can do as much as men and they can even do it better 2) live simply. 3) if you do something,do it with your all."nabasa ka na rin, maligo ka na" 4) be strong,be in control.crying and being emotional will not solve anything 5) everyone is equal..whether the beggar on the street or the rich friends you have in school..treat them equally

i like #2. but i think my dad gave up on me early. i remember over hearing a conversation he had with my mom "at the rate she's going she'll never have any savings." this was during my mid20's. gastadora. haha.
about #4. he always told me, cry if you have to but don't let anyone see you cry.

Eto rin pala, tinuro sa kin- di ko natutunan. LOL. Hanggang ngayon nire-remind pa rin niya ako :) Although with my dad kasi he takes simple living to the extreme. He thinks a person only needs the following: shelter, food, clothes, water and a good TV :D I don't think he's bought a new shirt in the last 5 years. He hasn't stepped inside a movie theater in at least a decade. Maloloka siya if he has to pay over P500 for food for 2 people. He's just happy at home with his garden, his TV and his home-cooked meals :)

yes..that was hard.he made sure my brother and i spent a month in the farm with the workers to learn. he kind of gave up on my older sisters..haha
#4-- no, we weren't allowed to cry.when he died, i didn't cry a tear and just told myself, he wouldn't want to see me crying.i still have a hard time crying till now.
Things i learned from papapovilicious23June 22 2009, 16:07:54 UTC
1. Stop frowning 2. Laugh like there's no tomorrow in front of girl friends but NOT in front of boys. 3. Read, read, read. 4. Regardless of the loopholes, never ever give up my faith in God. 5. There will come a point that brain is better than brawn.

Ah, I got the "straighten your back" remark from mom. She is the voice inside my head every time I slouch...She made me go to ballet class at 4 years old under Lisa Macuja back in the 80's which I didn't like but made me flexible hehe.
