New toys

It's been a week full of new gadgets and toys. It started on a low point. I received the new phone that I'd been waiting for but it turned out to be the wrong model. Meanwhile my iPhone (first generation - got it the first couple of weeks it came out) is about to die. It's been so buggy it actually already keeps dying on me three times a day. My fault. I never upgraded the original version.

Then a couple of days ago my Vivienne Tam hp netbook finally arrived. I've been waiting for this baby since the first day I saw it. This is the only computer that has convinced me to stray away from mac (even for just a little while). I know "once you go mac, you never go back"... then I saw this. As you can see, it is BEAUTIFUL. And most importantly it is so light. And despite it being so tiny, the keyboards aren't too small. They're 92% the size of normal keyboards so they're not uncomfortable.

The only downside for me is that I have to learn (relearn) how to function on a PC. My fingers and brain are so used to the mac system that it's taking me a little while to get used to the old operating systems. But I figured it'll take just a few days. My entire life is still on mac - desktop, laptop, iphone. But the hp mini is something I really NEED now.

Last night the bag hag and I watched Angels and Demons with our hubbies (I loved it). She wanted to see my new Vivienne Tam "purse"... it really looks like a flat minaudiere. I put my netbook inside my little hobo bag. And it was so light. Meanwhile she had to leave her 13-inch macbook at Accessory Lab because she found it too heavy. Will the baghag make the switch to PC too? Maybe like me... just for on-the-go needs. Or until mac comes out with their version of a netbook. Will they ever?

I'm now looking for the little add-ons that Vivienne Tam designed - like the the mouse, usb and sleeve. My hp fairy god mother says she'll help me order. Can't wait. There are only 250 units of VT being sold in the Philippines and as of Thursday more than half are gone. I feel so fortunate to have mine.

Testing the Ricoh GX200 while shooting UZ at the Ito Kish shop in LRI Building, Nicanor Garcia St, Makati.

Speaking of gadgets, I'm currently trying out the Ricoh GX200. I initially liked it because of its form. I blogged it earlier. Then I found out that it had quite a cult following amongst the creative set, not just here in Manila but also in Japan and Thailand. I met some people in the advertising industry in Bangkok and they were using this little point and shoot as their secondary camera (after their DSLR). Last month Ricoh cameras were launched in the Philippines.

So far I'm impressed with the quality of the macro shots. It also seems to have less noise than my Leica D-Lux. The Ricoh GX200 does everything the D-Lux does and it seems to have more functions. I'll still have to keep playing with it before I decide if I'm getting it. I actually don't need another compact camera... but I know me. I like form. And this camera has good form and lots of redeeming functional qualities.
