Hey! my office is by that roundabout with the Rey Paz Contreras sculpture! You were right about 'it's not supposed to be pretty' because honestly, to me it looks like a thick dead tree (its surrounded by taller, thinner trees) in a balding forest.

it's quite depressing just being there, especially since a lot of construction is happening around our area. It feels like its fall or winter, especially when the sun's just about to set and everything's starting to fade into the dark. but thank you for asking your kids basic questions that help them (well now, us) appreciate these stuff. im no art person, but now, the piece has some sort of meaning. and yes, it will bring about some form of inspiration one way or another. :)

that's the thing... it'll mean different things to different people. even if you think its ugly or depressing, at least there's emotion there. our city is already bombarded with too many celebrity-driven billboards (which we can argue can spark either inspiration or disgust). seeing public art in bonifacio makes the development or over development more bearable.

im glad you read my post. was worried it was too long.

cheers!

but have you seen the art billboards? where instead of slebs you see art by filipino artists. i saw some along edsa and a few just before nlex. i think that's one step (a very bold step!)

It's refreshing to see someone speak up about the lack of public art in our city. I wish our government would invest more on public parks, too, so people can have an alternative to going to malls. But sadly, most parks become unkempt and attract the homeless.
