Yaya Diaries...

I somehow ended up with 4 maids. Two yayas and two house maids. Yaya 1 took a month off to get married, so we had a replacement maid (just in case she couldn't come back or decided to get pregnant- she came back and is not yet pregnant). Yaya 2 is the SIL of yaya 1. Maid 3 is a cook we got from an agency because neither Yaya 1 or 2 or replacement ( Read more... )

Hey sorry to hear about your woes. That's the main reason I opted to just have a day maid. How was Honkong? Did you get to go?

Also - we are planning a Camping trip to Kawayan Cove Oct 4 w classmates. How is your schedule for that day? Open for family --- not w 4 maids though. Details to follow with official email from our Hostess with the Mostest ...

h.w.t.m.? let me guess... tinette? :)

we did hk over the weekend. NO YAYAS. we never travel with yayas and we love it that way. a bit chaotic but that's what parenting is about. if anyone saw me in hk (a few people said hi and even asked to pose for photos... haha), i apologize in advance for not fixing my hair or putting on makeup. i didn't know the meaning of vanity for four days. but it was fantastic!

btw - yes we are free that day... kawayan cove. just 1 yaya to help run after lily-with-the-constant-adrenalin-rush.

and about the day maid - i can't wait til i get to that point. no sad stories, no whatevers. i just think this is our way to help alleviate poverty in this country. except that maid 4 just added to the problem by having a kid she can't take care of.

colorful ng buhay ng mga yayas/maids mo :)

i have 2 yaya and a maid. i am thinking of getting rid of 1 yaya since my eldest is already 4. i know what you mean about food budget...sometimes, my hubby and i would rather have light meals (sandwich or noodles) - to save and loose weight (lol), pero we worry about the helpers' food...

I guess living in the States has really changed my whole view of household help. When we left the Philippines, I had relatives that actually wagered against my being able to live without household help. Now, I can't really imagine having someone else living in my home and doing chores. I can't imagine the food budget, energy expenses and payroll you have to deal with. Plus dealing with all their drama, sob stories and personal issues, on top of all that, would certainly put me over the edge.

All my friends and family back home deal with the same issues managing their household. Its almost a full-time job.

Hi Daphne, I also have 2 litlle girls like you. Yayas and maids really add up to our food budget, (since they eat what we eat), electricity bills ( lunch till night time, the They're glued to their tv sets when kids are in school or when kids are asleep), and sometimes our stress level ( having to deal with their personal problems and their relative's problems ). But it thus made me realize how lucky we are to most of our kababayans. As long as they take good care of my kids and love them, I'm willing to go thru all these stress.

I agree. I just ended up with 1 or 2 too many. Maid 4 leaves today. So we'll be down to 3.

hey daph, i think you only need 2 maid, get 1 that is all around from an agency someone who can cook, clean, iron and do the laundry. We have an all around maid we pay her 5500 a month been with us for 2 years now, she started with 3500. she cleans a big house, and cooks really good, plus iron and laundry pa plus bonus wash our car.day off twice a month every 15th and 30th. once a year vacation for a week.then get a yaya, have a stress free life:)

Tell me 'bout it. Apparently, I wasn't the only one having yaya troubles here. I just had the roughest 2 weeks of my entire life because of my daughter's yaya.

We had to squatter at my parents' home until yesterday because of our yaya's sudden emergency situation. So yes, I agree with you... "But why do they still treat us like we are their padrinos? I'm tired of cash advances, sad stories of cousins falling off trees and motorbikes being pawned off."

Kaloka at nakakastress!

My sanity was about to snap na sana buti na lang we already found a replacement... My daughter's new yaya just started today... and I'll see what happens in the next days. Hopefully this one will be better.

Goodluck to your yaya blues too.

=)

im not really yaya-dependent because my daughters are so attached to me. and i'm home with them almost everyday. i just need the yaya there as back up.

im dependent on maids for kitchen work and cleaning. i tried cooking today (cook's day off) and burned my finger.
