Urban Zone's been on ABSCBN and TFC for two years now. Thank you to all those who watch us, despite the late timeslot. As an independent production - by Bayan Productions - it means a lot to more than stay afloat, but to even make waves in the industry. And in two years, I'm proud to say that UZ has definitely made an impact.
We get letters from all over the world - with the obvious greetings and fawning all over the spectacular homes we've featured. But what surprises me the most is that UZ has INSPIRED people to make that difficult first-step and take control of their environment. We've seen many urbanistas decorate their homes, aiming to live a stylish lifestyle. For me this goes beyond aesthetic. For me, this can start a "revolution" of sorts. Where people fix their homes, then care about their sidewalks, care about the way their streets look, get involved in the way their community is run, and hopefully start changing the way the city looks. We're getting there. It's great to know that our little show can make that impact... we even invented a word "urbanista" (I heard there is an Urbanista salon in QC, and and Urban Zone hardware store in Batangas -- we have nothing to do with those, and I'm floored that they can use our names... haha).
Tonight we are showing a special episode of UZ - highlighting the different ways urbanistas have defined their spaces. From dream homes with wide open spaces, to country homes, to small condos. You shouldn't miss this one. We don't post our episodes on youtube, and we don't give out or sell DVDs of the show. So if you miss this one, it's gone. That's tonight at around 11:45 pm (we are the last show in ABSCBN Ch 2 on Sunday nights, and for TFC, please check your cable listing for sched).
In a couple of weeks I'll be showing the "after" of my home renovations. We've been going through this long difficult process of renovating three bedrooms of our 40-year old Filipino-style house. We survived it... though we went way over budget as expected. I'm pleased with the results. My kids are thrilled. They finally can see their toys again (we packed up most of them during the construction). I'm still doing finishing touches with the help of Ito Kish - who has a fabulous store in LRI Building, Nicanor Garcia St, Makati.
Here's a bit of what we've done so far. This is inside my closet space.
Antique pedestal/storage
Painting by Olan Ventura. Bought by my husband during one of our anniversaries (we don't give each other jewelry or fancy things. Just art.
Lamp made by my husband. He went thru a lamp-making phase one time, converting every odd object in our house into a lamp. This object was an antique candle stand.
And sculpture from Ito Kish, LRI Building, Makati. I normally don't buy decor for the house because all I have to do is shop in our living room or storage. But this was significant. Roses and lilies... for my daughters Sophia Rose and Lily Paloma.
It was really hard to make that decision to renovate. Our lives were totally disrupted. But now... four months later... everytime we wake up we feel like we're in some heavenly bed floating in a sea of white.
Don't forget tonight... Urban Zone "best of" episode.
