What's new along the Pasig River

Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge
The other day on Twitter I asked if anyone has used this new bridge over the Pasig River. It's right by Rockwell and it crosses over to Mandaluyong. The response was half and half. It was a good alternative to get from Mandaluyong to Makati, vice versa. But there were also those who said that the streets in Mandaluyong were too narrow and they ended up getting stuck. Well at least there's another option now.
At the foot of the new bridge right across from Power Plant Mall, there is multi-tower residential development that is being constructed. The concept capitalizes on its unique location, right along the Pasig River, hence the name "Acqua" which means "water" in Italian. A few weeks ago I met with Marco R. Antonio, Century Properties' Managing Director and Acqua Project Head. He introduced me to their newest project. Before I continue, I must say that this post is by no means an endorsement or recommendation of their project. I don't know that much about it and I do not own any developments by Century so I cannot personally vouch for them. Besides, I am not their spokesperson nor endorser...

First on this list is the project’s tropical rainforest-infused design and architecture, said Marco R. Antonio, the firm’s Managing Director and Acqua Project Head. “Acqua is designed to be the resident’s sanctuary within the city; your very own jungle within the concrete jungle, so to speak.”
Antonio explains that Century Properties designed the 2.4-hectare property rigorously for months with the award-winning international firm Broadway Malyan and local counterpart R Villarosa Architects to ensure that the six residential towers and common spaces resemble elements of the tropical rainforest. Specifically, the building aesthetic resembles pixilated water streams.
Six towers will rise on the site
The Pebble will be Acqua's private country club. It resembles a smooth river stone. The lower levels will be a commercial area open to the public.
Niagara Tower, the first tower in Acqua, is 42 storeys high.
All the towers will bear the name of famous waterfalls. There's Niagara, Sutherland (New Zealand), Detifoss (Iceland), Iguazu (Brazil), Victoria (South Africa), Yosemite (USA).
I was with my daughter Sophia when I met with Century Properties. She was in awe of their showroom. She, like Lily too, loves architectural scale models. So she was right at home during the tour. When she saw the video of the development and heard "Niagara," she got all excited. My dad used to fly a chopper over the Falls. By the time Sophia was born, my dad retired from flying. So we are limited to just sightseeing in Niagara Falls now.
