Taylor Swift in Manila

Skip this if you hate Taylor Swift. This is a long one.

We had all given up on the Taylor Swift concert (Feb 19). We had three crying fits the past few weeks. One from Lily and two from Sophia. I tried all possibilities to book and buy tickets - through different groups like St Scho alums, a couple of corporations, my contact at Araneta Centre, friends of friends of Ovation. But no one came through with tickets. They were selling bits and pieces of Standing Room Only and I didn't want to even go there. So we had given up all hope.

Then just a day before the concert, on Friday noontime, Kate Torralba (one of the people I reserved through) phoned and said two tickets freed up. I had a dilemma. Two tickets means one adult and one kid. But we had two kids who were dying to go. Plus, I had accepted a booking (job) for Davao that weekend anyway. I would be out of town. I thought hard for a good five minutes (didn't have much time to dilly dally). Consulted Patrick. Consulted my mom and dad. We all decided I should buy the two tickets and let Patrick go with Sophia. And we'd all help out dealing with Lily's heart break.

Sophia made this after hearing she got tickets.

Lily is TS's biggest fan. Last spring in New York City, she dressed herself like "Twayler Schwiff." But she didn't like the way her headband fell on her head. She said it made her look like the Statue of Liberty. Oh Lily.

So I broke it to her gently on Friday night. After Sophia would not stop screaming and jumping over her tickets, I had to sit quietly with Lily. It was heart breaking.

Me: Lily, you know you're only 4 years old. And Mommy just found out that you have to be 6 years old to watch a concert. (I'm a liar.)
Lily: (Eyes beginning to well up with tears) No Mommy. But I watched Mamma Mia. Remember? In Canada?

Lily at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto.

Me: Yes baby. But Mamma Mia was not a concert. It was the theatre. A rock concert is different. It's more crowded and dangerous for 4 year olds.
Lily: So I'll never go to a concert? Big wail. Screams. Cries.
Me: Of course you will. One day I will bring you to a concert. Because I can't go to Taylor Swift either.
Lily: What concert?
Me: Justin Bieber. I will take you to Justin Bieber. I'm a big liar. I have no plans of watching the Biebs. And besides it's sold out too.
Lily: Yaay! Justin Beaver. I'm going to Justin Beaver!

I'm a big liar. I suppose I would have to go through the same process with Justin Bieber. Beg for tickets. But at least I'd have a couple of months to worry about it. But I felt so bad that night. My parents and Patrick were equally heart broken. My mom was the one who treated us to Mamma Mia. She was touched that Lily remembers.

Well, I thought that was that. But minutes before we went to bed, Patrick made some calls. Then he goes, "Lily is going to Taylor Swift's concert." "What? I spent the last four months chasing after TS tickets and you just made one call and you're getting Lily in???" I couldn't believe it. I'm like, "How? Who? Where?" He's a man of few words. He says, "Don't ask."

So that morning before I flew to Davao, I had to lie through my teeth again. I told Lily, "Guess what? I made a mistake. You are 4 and a half!! They said you can go to the concert!" Lily was confused. She said, "No mommy, it's dangerous. I'll just wait for Justin Bieber's concert." OMG. "Lily, it's Taylor Swift. You can wear rock chic outfit and a nice headband." It took a few minutes to sink in. I felt like I had to deprogram her. I'm such a bad liar.

While in Davao, I was nervous the entire time. How will Patrick handle it if the girls have to go pee? I hate that there are no Family Washrooms here. What if its too loud for the kids? What if he loses one of the girls? What if they get too cold in there?

Just before 8pm I get a phone call, both girls are screaming their heads off. "We saw her car! Her car!"

White humvee limo. Can someone tell me if this was really Taylor Swift's? Patrick said it was surrounded by bodyguards and backup vehicles.

Sophia says, "Don't worry Mommy. When Taylor Swift sings, I will call you from Daddy's phone so you can hear her too." She didn't. She couldn't. I guess she was overwhelmed by the whole thing. Patrick and I talked after the concert while he was on his way home.

Me: How was it?
Patrick: We were in the back.
Me: No you weren't. You were in Row B, Upper Balcony. Can't be that bad.
Patrick: We were in the back.
Me: How could that be? Your tickets said Row B. We paid 7,000 for those.
Patrick: We were in the back. Behind the stage. All we could see was her back.

Here's a clip from Patrick's iPhone --

Me: How did the kids like it?
Patrick: Lily fell asleep after the first song. My back is broken. I carried her the whole time.

I didn't even ask about the bathroom situation.

Soph, on the other hand, had the time of her life. She said there were lots of girls. And she bought a concert Tshirt like I told her to.

It's still too big for her. Told her we could style it up like a tshirt dress. She cringed.

Manila, we're the fifth city.

The girls are loving this video of Taylor's Asian tour. They feel like they were really a part of it. It seems Manila was the only city where she didn't make pasyal.I just have one question, what hotel did TS and her crew stay at in Manila? The furniture. Sana Daphne furniture na lang.
