Why?

I am one of the ambassadors of National Geographic Channel - a great honour that brought pride to my parents (my mom was in the car when I got the email). And for me too. I have loved National Geographic since I learned how to read. My parents even bought somebody's old Nat Geo magazines at a garage sale. I remember the first hologram cover - ground breaking! My dad got a subscription and I would wait patiently every month for it to arrive. In high school, I won the award for Geography during graduation (geography and art). My love for geography led me to study urban planning in university. But anyway...

The campaign promotes living curious. Everything deserves a why. Ask questions. Seek knowledge. Find answers.

I did this for my daughters. Everyday, they ask me close to 100 questions. I think every parent can relate to that. Sophia's most recent question was, "Mommy, do you know everything there is to know about being a mom?" That certainly deserved a good answer. I came up with, "No, not really. I'm learning everyday. The only thing I'm sure about is how to love you." For now, that satisfied her. But it kept me thinking all night. What do I really know about being a mother?

Other questions were, "Where does the garbage go?" My answer, "Landfill." And then she went on, "But WHERE does it really go?" Just yesterday, she asked me why the sky was blue. I said something like it was a reflection of the oceans. Then she said asked, why are the oceans blue then? So I said, lets read all about it later. Sometimes, we're too tired or busy to answer. Often times, we do not know the answer. As parents, I think our role is to guide them on how to find answers.

Explore. Read. Touch. Experiment. Walk in the park. Climb trees. Look at the stars. Imagine.

Must watch this...
