Last May, during our family vacation, the kids got to experience planting vegetables. It remains my dream to have property in Alfonso, Cavite so that Patrick and I could let our kids run around freely in our garden. Where we currently live, we do not have a patch of green. Very very sad. We have plants and some small trees. But not really a real yard. Hard to explain. But that's just the way it is.
I don't have a green thumb. In fact I am guilty of killing many plants over my adult life. My mother, is the opposite. We joke that she can even make dead plants bloom flowers. Really. She's got the greenest thumb. She has fruit-bearing plants inside the house. She can make orchids and gumamela bloom even in the dead of winter. Unfortunately I didn't inherit that gene. But I do appreciate and love gardens and greenery.
We chanced upon my brother planting tomatoes and other vegetables last spring. The kids helped him.

My brother, the weekend gardener.
I got an email from my Kuya. He said to tell the kids that the tomatoes they planted finally bore fruit. And that they were going to eat the tomatoes fresh from the vine. Here are his photos...
It made me smile. I miss my family. My mom went back to Toronto last night. I had breakfast alone today. No chitchat over coffee.
Seeing these tomatoes immediately brought me back home.
