Summer lessons

Its summer. And my 5-year old asked for ice skating lessons. Go figure. It's 33 degrees celcius outside. But there are two ice skating rinks in the city - both inside a mall.

My dad sent her brand new skates from Canada.

So we took her to her first lesson. We haven't found the right coach yet. But this petite man seemed okay.

Obviously my little girl's main concern, other than learning how to skate on ice, was her outfit. She did not wan to wear jeans because she says ice skaters have to wear skirts - all the better to twirl with. No amount of explaining - that she first has to learn how to not fall before she can twirl and perform - worked. She wanted to be in a skirt. So we put the jeans underneath to protect her legs.

The best thing about watching her that hour was that she showed no fear or shame. Everytime she fell, she got up with a smile. She really loved being on ice.

The one-year old is too small for ice skating. She's happy pretending that she's on ice.

In the meantime, she's doing two classes in Gymboree. There is a wonderful deal in Gymboree. If you enroll your kid in 2 classes, she/he gets to play for an unlimited time in that location, any day. Those who know how much Gymboree free play costs will truly appreciate that.
