About 2 hours ago a strong thunderstorm swept over Southern Ontario. A strong one! It passed Mississauga - strong rain, wind and lightning. Our electrical system at home went haywire. It got so dark and our lights and appliances went off and on intermittently. We tuned in to the radio and people reported funnel clouds in Jarvis street downtown. It was surreal, the radio DJ at CHFI was broadcasting live while the tornado was passing over. Tornado also touched down near Canada's Wonderland and Scarborough.

Its clear now, the sun is up again, with the blue skies all around. It is now hitting Oshawa going East. Heard some houses were destroyed and at least one casualty. The reports are still coming in.

We (all in the family) are ok. Called all of them. No material damage. Thanks to God.

Do not worry, we are all fine. No problem. What an exciting experience!

Take care,
Dad

We always joke around that nothing ever happens in (the) Toronto (area). I was once offered a job in a mainstream 6pm newscast in T.O., but I turned it down. Long story. Another time. I was talking to some news people there and we compared notes. Their 6pm news always had traffic, weather and some minor updates from provincial parliament or the fire department rescuing an elderly person. Our 6pm news had death, accidents, kidnapping, hold-ups, explosions, bomb threats etc. Not that I'm showing off.

I'm usually the one who calls to tell them crazy news about flooding, typhoon milenyo, coup attempts, people power rallies, petty crime and whatever "excitement" I experience in this part of the world. Nothing major usually happens in the Toronto area. I was there during the great black out of 2005 when the entire north eastern sea border (including New York) lost power for a couple of days. That was exciting. We still talk about it. Now this - tornado. How scary.

News reports are still coming in.

I hope everyone's okay in the GTA. Let me know how it is/how it went...

In lighter news....

I got a call from Globe last night. My FREE iPhone 3GS 32GB is ready for pick up. (They would have sent it to my house, but I preferred to pick it up so they could help set it up for me).

Yay!!
