A man up on a ladder on the sidewalk, stringing a "World Cup games shown here!" banner from his restaurant to a nearby tree.
On the corner of Oderberger Strasse, a group of young French people overflowing onto the street corner from an early evening party at some kind of design studio/gallery/hipster-looking place, holding beers and playing ping pong on a makeshift table.
Flags appearing everywhere, in the run-up to the World Cup. The best was a single bright black-red-gold hanging from a window in an otherwise drab, brown apartment block. The weirdest was the display in the grocery store: a big rack of chips and "peanut flips" (don't even ask, it's a particularly gross snack food Germans like to eat) flanked by two little German flags.
Plus live music in the Mauerpark, and every single restaurant and café in the city spilling tables, chairs, and diners out onto the sidewalks.
And the sky to the northwest only just starting to put on a spectacular sunset after 9 p.m.
And it's 11:30 p.m., and still in the mid-70's!
