Lavender sky.

Holy Mary, Mother of Mischief, I'VE BEEN BUSY. Haven't had time for much in the ways of introspection here, though there's certainly plenty going on. Classes are going well... very challenging. They end August 5, and I'm sure I'll have more to say about it then.

I've also been making lavender oil. A few people asked, so I've included the steps below.

1. Trim off the stalks cleanly with scissors, then deflower each stalk by pinching it between thumb and the side of your pointer finger, running those fingers down to push the lavender off. 2. Spread the petals across a paper towel to dry for a few hours. You may want to press them a little to get rid of extra moisture.

3. Fill a clean jar to the very top with flower heads. Cover completely with extra virgin olive oil, or almond oil. I use a chopstick to poke through the flowers to make sure there are no pockets of air left- the buds need to stay completely covered or they'll spoil and mold. 4. Let the jar sit for up to one month (be sure to place something under it, because the jars tend to leak when they're full). After that month, pour the contents into a sieve or muslin cloth and store your oil in another clean jar.

Repeat the process with the same oil to make the scent stronger.
It's great for your skin, great for baths, and usually great aromatherapy.
