I've been reading Émile Zola... His books follow various members of a family through their lives during Napoleon III's reign. Sounds boring, but they're really very classically romantic and the characters and writing remind me a bit of Salinger. Mind you, I don't mean romantic like XOXO... Romantic like dirt, grit, hard working folk and the pursuit of a happy life.

"Civilization will not attain to its perfection until the last stone from the last church falls on the last priest." - Émile Zola
