Lappytoppy wireless

So I bought a Dell Inspiron laptop, and I'm trying to get it connected for wireless. I got a Wireless-G router, and I think I'm good to go. Only not. When I connectify everything, I get signal through my cable modem and signal through the wireless router, and the desktop PC is connected.... but the laptop, she is not.

The problem may be the Vonage router that is part of the sequence. Here's how it runs right now:

Cable >> Cable Modem >> Vonage router >> wireless router >> PC

Now, the setup CD tells you to put the CD in a computer with a wired internet connection. I want the wireless router to connect to the laptop, so I connect the laptop's Ethernet port to the Vonage router to get signal, giving me this sequence:

Cable >> cable modem >> Vonage >> laptop

From there, I download the setup instructions. Then I'm directed to disconnect the laptop to configure the wireless connection, and I use this sequence:

Cable >> modem > Vonage >> wireless router >> PC

In theory, this should give me signal on the PC (it does) and allow me to connect via the laptop, wirelessly. But when I test the latter, there's no signal detected.

Looking at the wireless router (which I can't do now, since I'm at work), the power and internet lights are green, and the wireless light is blinking intermittently. This tells me that the wireless router is getting signal, I believe. (So maybe it's not Vonage.)

So. The question is why the laptop is not getting signal from the wireless router. Note that the laptop is not connected in any way to the router, other than wirelessly (in theory). That is, I disconnected the ethernet cable as directed by the setup instructions.

I'm looking for ideas..
