I so hope Kol and Damon have met. I mean, I doubt they were friends, it was probably something more along the lines of "I spilled a martini on your shirt and your retaliatory boning of my date was immature and disproportionate" but still. I hope they know each other.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe Esther really does only intend to use the blood for this linking ritual. But having someone else's blood gives you power over that person, and I would be not at all surprised if Esther's spell has some sort of unfortunate side effect on Elena.
