So now Alex and Marta are telling me that some people think this is bad writing. I find that baffling. It's awesome writing, for myriad reasons. It was a legit amazing, shocking moment, it provides some compelling character drama in a long-lasting way, and it proves that no one is safe on this show

Ehhh, it bothered me from a writing perspective that Jeremy's arc still seemed to be somewhere in its middle, and so abruptly killing him off struck me as unfortunate. But as I said on Marta's post, this show loves to kill off characters JUST WHEN THEY'RE GETTING INTERESTING. Oh well. He's basically been fridged for the sake of Elena's and Bonnie's character development, so... yay gender reversals? :\

Also, I am so completely over killing characters to prove that "no one is safe." Thanks, Joss Whedon.

I love that they actually killed Kol. Sorry, Kol stans. But this was a bold move, and I always love bold moves.

See, I was not that surprised at this? I suppose there was an outside chance that he'd be on the Originals spin-off, but I always assumed eventually they were gonna kill another Original, and it's sure as hell not going to be Klaus or Rebekah, and probably not Elijah, either. So. Who's left? (Part of me feels that Finn, Kol, Mikael, and Esther were introduced purely to be collateral damage, so the characters could appear to be making progress in battling the Originals while keeping the characters the show loves TOTALLY SAFE.)

While I am all for Katherine being back and having some sort of nefarious plan, I DO NOT WANT Katherine to secretly want the cure or something.

I am 99% certain that Katherine just wants the cure to kill Klaus. I don't think she wants to be human, but she definitely wouldn't want to be human with Klaus still after her. This is her chance to get rid of him. (Though why she felt she needed to kill Jeremy to steal it instead of just working with the gang is beyond me.)

He's delivered on his promise, he's gotten her there, but he just can't go any further. Because he can't be there and not choose. If he's in a room with Elena and the cure, he will finally have to decide to be selfish or selfless, to choose his own desires or her own. So he takes himself out of it.

YES YES YES.

Ok, yes, this is totally fair. From a Jeremy perspective, this was definitely not good. Lol, understatement. This sort of thing definitely does usually bother me, now that I think about it, but I suppose I'm so used to Jeremy being sidelined and I'm so invested in Elena's greater arc that it just didn't get to me as much? But I will miss that kid, and he was definitely underused throughout the show's run.

Fair enough. We all have such residual Joss trauma.

You calling the Kol death just means you are smarter than me. Everything you say makes total sense. I guess I was just surprised by the ultimate total pointlessness of Kol. I thought Finn had been the pointless Original sibling. Lol. Finn.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about Katherine actually wanting to be human. Just keeping an eye on it. And yes, her killing Jeremy didn't actually make all that much sense, especially since I lowkey ship Katherine/Jeremy. But who knows. I guess we must wait for Kat to explain herself.

Ughhhhhh the perfection of Damon in this episode. Just.

P.S. I love your comments. You manage to come up with all these alternate perspectives that always make me think about things in a different way, and it's delightful. You remain wonderful.

Heh, I was kind of oddly surprised by it? Like, if you had asked me at any point prior to last week, I'd have been all, "Yeah, Jeremy's totes expendable." But having it actually happen just felt WRONG. (Although I do feel better about it after this week's ep, and I'm not sure if that's because I've gotten used to the idea or because Nina Dobrev is SO GOOD they should kill everyone to make her cry all the time.)

lol what is a Finn

P.S. STOP, YOU. You flatter me. Most of the time I am talking out of my ass.
