i drove out to ybor to meet bert and company and catch the midnite showing of episode 3 thursday morning to launch my 35th bday,
it was as dark and violent as i expected it to be, as action filled as i thought it could be, and visually it was candy, it told the story i have been waiting for ever since i learned of vader's origin back in grade school, a long time ago, in a town far far away, but more exciting for me was the the dual between anakin and ben,
it made me a fan again, it took me back to childhood and made me remember how excited i was when i walked out of the theater in 79, yeah i caught it late, i caught it on the re-release the winter prior to empire coming out a few months later,
im not going to rip this one apart as viscously as i have the other 2, simply because, there was enough lightsaber action to satisfy any star wars fan, and being that this IS star wars, i wasnt looking for oscar winning performances, i wasnt looking for heart felt dialogue, i wanted to be entertained, and entertained i was,
do i have any peaves about it? mainly one and a little one at that,
was the dialogue weak as some may claim? it was consistent with star wars,
was the acting bad? its hard to act when you hardly have any dialogue, even portman was somewhat disappointing, haydenson actually got better, mcGreggor totally at his obi wan best in this one, mcDiarimid should be awarded for his poker face at playing the villain for the duration of 3 movies, and not cracking even though we all new he was the phantom menace right from the get, and jackson well its sam, you know the jedi with a light saber that says bad ass motherfucking jedi on the handle,
this is the second time that lucas gives me a star wars movie on my bday, thank you for not letting this one suck lucas, thank you very much
one final comment on SW, i caught this last nite on my second viewing, if you notice the empirial soldier when vader and the emperor are looking out the window from the cruiser, the soldier that walks away from them is Grand Moff Tarkin, he passed away a few years ago, but lucas took his image and super imposed it on a CGI character to give him a more youthful appearance and put him back into the film, he if you recall or dont know, was behind the designing of the original death star,
which leads me to some speculation,
knowing how lucas likes to be the first to do things, and knowing how much money he is going to bank again on this independent project of his, wouldnt it be interesting if he decided to go back on his word and go through with episodes 7, 8 , and 9 using cgi characters in the likeness of hamill, fisher, and ford? all he would need would be their voices hmmmm
anyhows,
spent the day in st petersburgh yesterday, and went to the dali museum, where i decided to get my annual membership to, ended up buying a fairly large framed print of his Hallucinating Torreador, this has become one of my recent favorites of his works
switched my jeeps a/c to r134 and changed my headlights to blue hallogens this afternoon,
all is well at the moment, well indeed
