Title: The Sacred Simplicity of You at My Side (Epilogue)
Wordcount: ~500 this part, ~62,000 in all
Pairing/Characters: Matt Doyle/Wesley Taylor, Matt Doyle/Jonathan Groff, Lauren Molina, Blake Daniel, Krysta Rodriguez
Rating: NC-17 overall
Warnings: This fic (as a whole) is by far the dirtiest things I've ever written. Fingering, handjobs, blowjobs, rimming, and explicit male/male sex, light bondage. Also, ANGST.
Summary: Snapshots throughout close to two years of a relationship between two young Broadway actors, and all the drama that entails. I'm not sure how to summarize it beyond that.
Notes: Title (and lyrics) from Eric's Song by Vienna Teng.

They hold a "Welcome Home" party for Krysta and Wes, they being Matt and Lauren and Blake and Emma and Skylar and Mitch. Jon is even persuaded to bring some of that incredible chocolate cake, although he's very busy these days and doesn't know how long he'll stay, and Matt makes Blake stop asking him why.

It's really mostly just like the cast parties they used to have at Matt's place right after the show closed, only there's less booze and more cake and a lot of them haven't seen Wes or Krysta in months. Matt sits back and lets Wes be mobbed for a while, because he gets him when everyone else leaves and he figures it's only fair. He ends up on his couch, a little away from all the noise, writing down some lines that might one day be a song.

A quiet knock makes him look up. Jon is standing in the doorway, limbs loose. "I'm leaving for LA this weekend," he says, and wets his lips.

Matt nods, and when he smiles he's surprised at how genuine it feels, how easy. "Glee, right?" he asks.

Jon smiles back. "Yeah," he says. "It'll be fun to work with Lea again."

"Make sure you give her a dose of New York humility, I hear she's getting a little cocky now that she's so thoroughly conquered the small screen." Matt says, standing up.

Jon shrugs. "If anyone deserves it, it's her."

Matt shakes his head. "If anyone deserves it it's you," he says earnestly.

Jon flushes, taking a step towards him. "Matt - "

Matt catches him up in a hug, palms against the planes of his back. "I'll miss you," he says, and Jon lets a long breath out into his hair.

There's a noise at the door and Matt opens his eyes. Wes raises his eyebrows at him but it's just inquiring, not suspicious and not accusatory and Matt smiles into Jon's shoulder. He lets go and steps back. "Have fun," he says. "Please."

Jon nods and steps away. He turns and catches sight of Wes. "Wes, hey," he says, "Um."

Wes smiles at him and opens his arms. "Good luck, man," he says, and Jon leans in hesitantly to hug him. Wes slaps a hand on his back and releases him and with a muttered "Thanks," he's through the doorway and gone.

Matt takes a breath, and Wes slips over to sit on the couch next to him. "You okay?" He asks, voice nothing but concerned, and Matt nods, threading his fingers through Wes'. It's not himself he's worried about.

"Is he?" Wes asks, and Matt tightens his fingers.

"I don't know," he says, and thinks about the tightness in Jon's face, the circles under his eyes. But he was smiling, and he would be with Lea, and he would be away from New York, and maybe - "When. When I broke up with him - he was expecting it, Wes. He was always expecting it, and he..." Tell me the truth so I can kick you out and start dealing with it. "I think he started trying to heal before I even hurt him."

Wes pulls him in, fingers gentle on the back of Matt's neck. "He'll be okay," he says, and he can't know that, Matt knows he can't know, but it still makes him feel better.  "He'll find his happiness."

"Yeah," says Matt. There's still a small, selfish part of him that hurts at the thought of Jon happy with anyone else, but it's dying silent, and he curls his fingers under Wes' chin. "And I've found mine."

Wes laughs, shaking his head. "You're such a sap," he says, but leans in to kiss Matt slow and sweet, and Matt grins into his lips.

So we just hold on fast
Acknowledge the past
As lessons exquisitely crafted
Painstakingly drafted
To carve us as instruments
That play the music of life
For we don't realize
Our faith in the prize
Unless it's been somehow elusive
How swiftly we choose it
The sacred simplicity
Of you at my side
