Polanski's defenders insist that his sex with a thirteen-year-old girl, which he pleaded guilty for, was "a consensual thing". To that I say, fucking bullshit. Even not taking into account the fact that she was thirteen, and most probably in no position to say no, he pleaded guilty for rape. He ran from the law. He showed all the signs that he knew he was wrong and now he's trying to play it off as nothing.
There are petitions, written by fans of his art, to let him off. I admit, he has had an influence over art, he is a contributor to the artistic tapestry of America. But let me stress something, please. His art has nothing to do with the fact that he raped a thirteen-year-old girl.
Polanski has already evaded the law for over thirty years. Help put a stop to this before that evasion becomes permanent and yet another scumbag walks free because our justice system is run like a popularity contest. I signed it. Did you?
