I'm a bit like Misha Collins in that I'm fascinated with subcultures. I'm interested to see how things like fandoms grow, how their languages work (PWP, squee, whumpage, non-con, Jooster, Spangel, all that lovely crazy business), how cultures grow inside cultures (people's 'verses, personal canon, 'shippers). And so despite the fact that it bores me to death to actually watch most of them, I'm morbidly interested in sports.
It's like a manly-man's fandom, an excuse to obsess over tiny details of people's lives and discuss them in forums (bars, parties) without suspicion. They may not write fanfiction, they may not draw fanart, they may not speculate about all the gay sex their favorite players engage in (although if Gabhi's a good indication, they very well might). But think about how two random Eagles fans, or Lakers fans, or Red Sox fans, can bond over beer and the game, can go at each other's throats for liking the wrong players, and tell me it's not like squeeing and flame wars.
They're just lucky, because they can go see their idols do their jobs far more often and easily than we can.
In other news, I'm writing a SPN/Leverage crossover, Dean/Eliot. Started it a few weeks ago and actually had time to play with it again today. Wrote a couple comment_fic's, too. Looking forward to being alone in the house tomorrow to really buckle down.
