if you get a professional to do it, it's gonna cost crazy money, like 25-30 bucks an hour. and if there are several rooms, it could take a while. the tricky thing with painting is what's called the "cutting"... you have to cut around all the edges with a brush, prior to rolling the walls. most colors will take two full coats, also. the first thing to do is to try to estimate the cutting... are there lots of windows, closets, trim work, etc.? all of that takes time. if it's just a square little box, it should go quickly.
my advice would be:
1. do it yourself. allow some time prior to moving in, and the two of you rock it out in a day or two. your only expenses will be materials (expect about 30 bucks for a gallon of paint). most things you can do cheap-style (rollers, trays, tarps, etc), but GET A DECENT BRUSH. spend 15 bucks on one of the good ones, decent sized, etc. if you buy a shit brush, it'll take twice as long and you'll be pulling little hairs off the wall for the rest of your life.
another dorky painter tip is this: get a small plastic bucket. when you buy the paint, fill the empty bucket about 1/4 of the way up with paint, and use that to pull from. also, when you dip the brush in, don't wipe it on the lip of the bucket to get it to stop dripping. simply bang it back and forth on the insides of the bucket. enough paint will come off that you won't make a mess and you'll have to re-dip less. also, hold the brush like a pencil. this is a lot easier to explain in person.
2. if that scares you off, try to find some college kid on craigslist to do it. i've personally posted shit on there when i was at my brokest, recently.
