ok, so i'll admit it... my political posts are usually just rants. i'm really not all that savvy when it comes to the nuts and bolts of politics, and i come hear to complain about them in the same way other people blog to complain about a job, or a boyfriend/girlfriend, or a bad day. which is all fine. not like any of this is being shipped off to the library of congress. but, as a consolation prize to my friends who put up with me, here are a few hilarious political links:
first up is
wonkette's play by play of the second presidential debate.
second,
a fine, fine website was created in the wake of bush's urgent need to correct kerry's account of the "coalition of the willing." (the more you scroll, the better it gets)
third, did anyone notice that totally bizarre moment in debate #2 where bush promised that he wouldn't nominate anyone to the supreme court who supported the dred scott verdict??? i'm not making this up:
Another example would be the Dred Scott case, which is where judges, years ago, said that the Constitution allowed slavery because of personal property rights.
That's a personal opinion. That's not what the Constitution says. The Constitution of the United States says we're all-you know, it doesn't say that. It doesn't speak to the equality of America.
(a beautiful thought-- the entire tuned-in nation--save nazis and kkk people-- all at once and in brilliant unison, think the exact same thing: uh-duh).
my theory is that bush momentarily lost track of kerry and thought he was debating
the emperor caligula.
slate has a different theory. and its not all that funny. i haven't read through all the links they present, so i don't know what to make of their article, but it's weird enough to deserve a look. the wonderful
katha pollitt has more pragmatic thoughts on the subject.
