Back From Florida!

Dec 25, 2006 21:04

Woah, so I come back from Florida and I hear rumblings from my Canton friends, whispers of a "reunion," of plans being made. This is exciting... I feel like I honestly haven't heard this much interest in months, or years, and I really wish I wasn't going back to school in about a week. I'd really like to see everyone and I do hope I get the chance.

Florida was fun. The weather was ok, not great, but I got to do most of what I wanted to do. And it was good to show my face in Florida again... first time in years!
Day by Day Summary of Florida
Tuesday: I flew out of Boston around 7:30 or something, landing a little after 11, and we went straight to the beach. The undertoe was surprisingly strong and I got stung by a dead Man-O-War on the beach. But the beach is fun, plus we got ice cream afterwards. That night I think we played Phase-10, or maybe not.
Wednesday: I slept uncomfortably and late (yay perma-headache, which persists to this day) and then hit up the pool briefly, but didn't go in... can you say shuffleboard?!? This day was less eventful, but if I didn't play Phase-10 on Tuesday I played it tonight. Definately played video games a lot.
Thursday: Key Largo!! We wanted to go snorkling and water-skiing, but winds were bad and shaky sun besides, so we settled for an enviro-tour (we saw fish, birds, etc... of note a manatee and a speedy shark) and observed some dolphins playing tricks on paying customers (pushing them, going through hoops, etc).
Friday: I forget what we did during the day, but at night we went out to dinner at the Grand Lux Cafe (a la Cheesecake Factory) and I ate a delicious Tuna something-French (New-SWA). Of note I ordered a beer (for old P-H) and got looks from just about everybody, but I expected it. In the older generation's eyes, I'm still around 12 years old.
Saturday: Weather was spotty in the morning but I pushed for water-skiing, and when we went out the weather got nicer and it became a unanimous decision :). It was so fun! I think I topped out at around 80KPH, and followed this motorboat around for a few miles and just played in it's wake with my cousin. Goood stuff... we followed that up with minigolf and then went to dinner with the extended fam at a Chinese restaurant. Amazingly I found a lot to eat. I considered buying a Chinese beer there, but I wasn't in the mood and didn't go for it. Then ice cream and home.
Sunday: We went to the pool and then off to Miami for the big family party. I got a magazine subscription gift card at the grab bag (didn't know they had those) and a somewhat awkward but generally good time milling around the various family members whom I haven't seen or talked to in several years. There were new babies and new wives and people who I remembered only from the perspective of being about a foot shorter everywhere. Yup... that's about how it tends to go with that side of the fam, but good to show up there every now and then I suppose.
Monday: Today! I flew home. Plane was early but the baggage was not, so it evened out. Got pickup Chinese with the fam and hung around the house. And etc.

My plans for the next week include seeing as many people as I can who I haven't gotten too much of a chance to see this break, and in my spare time doing a little shopping (*cough* shoes *cough*) and some job research. OH! I researched transatlantic cruises and they run all the time for around $1300, which I think is pretty sweet. We're talkin cruises here, not freighters... anyway that's step one of my theoretical European escapade. Interested parties may contact me at will.

Don't know what else I came here to say... didn't even come to say the last para really, it's just last minute cram. The new default font for lj sure is ugly though.
