Right, so for a while we've been looking at all our friends and how crazy they all are. Maybe not proper crazy -- save one or two -- but you know, one spends money as if she weren't £60k in debt, another is fiendishly self-centered, a few are lushes or sluts or both, etc. So just the little character flaws we all have that make us human. Anyway, we obviously discuss how crazy they all are and how we're the only normal people we know. Then I get to thinking, just maybe they think the same about us?
And then it hit me. We are totally useless and not in the least self-reliant. I mean, clearly we get through life just fine, or just about manage to as well as the next couple. But for instance, we don't have a car. Actually, these days we're about the only people we know without a car. And as our friends move a bit further out of London, we are always needing to beg lifts to parties or to train stations. Also, we just don't do DIY. I mean, I can just about hang a picture and use a drill, and my wife can do a bit of sanding and painting, but that's the extent of it. Everyone else has installed kitchens, put down new floors, built decking, tiled bathrooms, wallpapered bedrooms, and the list goes on. Us? Nada. And not going to, either.
So there we have it. I'm sure all our friends look at us and roll their eyes every time we catch a lift or call up with a silly question about tools. And that's just fine. We're still more normal than they are.
