in the end, mom had a good trip

Normally my mother comes over in October when her golf course is closed for returfing, but she saw a very good deal with a travel club, so she decided to have an extra trip in late March. This trip would be slightly different because she'd stay at a hotel and she'd be bringing a friend. Good news for us, since our flat is small; good news for her, since, for once, she'd have someone to play with during the day. Unfortunately, her friend had to cancel at the last minute, so again she'd be left alone during the day. BUT as luck would have it, my wife was on jury duty and she was released for two of the days since there were no cases. Voilà, playmate!

The trip was brief, but she managed to cram a lot in. She arrived on Monday and took us out to dinner for my wife's birthday. Wife chose Yauatcha. It's so cool in there, and the food was as excellent as ever. I ordered for all of us. Getting dim sum for three was great because we got to have 1/3 more dishes on our table. Thursday the girls went to TKTS on Leicester Square and got discount matinée tickets to see Kim Cattrall in Noel Coward's Private Lives, which the wife has been dying to see. Friday was a bank holiday and she went with us to a friend's 40th birthday party, for which he hired out a room in his favourite gay pub in Camden. Shockingly, it was her first time in a gay bar? Quote of the night: "Everybody seems to just dance with each other." For the record, she did a fair bit of dancing herself. Saturday was her last night here, and we had tickets to see the Cuban National Ballet perform Swan Lake. We both loved it.

So yeah, full trip. I think she actually enjoyed most of it as well. It's hard to be sure sometimes because she never tells us what she wants to do and will rarely say she didn't enjoy something, but this time she was more effusive.

Now, what the heck are we going to do with her in October?

family, events, restaurants
