The Car Man

Aug 03, 2007 15:08

Last night we went to Sadler's Wells to see Matthew Bourne's re-interpretation of Bizet's Carmen, wryly entitled Car Man.

I'm not sure how I managed to make it this far -- and with a rather decent music collection -- without having a recording of Carmen. I'm putting that on my list. If anyone (ahem, anellejay) can suggest a good recording, I'd be grateful. Anyway, I thought Edward Scissorhands was better, but I might have enjoyed Car Man a little more if I were very familiar with the original. It's hard to tell if it's down to the novelty (i.e. the first Bourne you see is the best, like Guy Ritchie), or the re-interpretation of a familiar work, or if one is just better than the other. In any case, I'm glad I went.

Besides, art is the only thing that separates man from beast.

Mornings have been good this week. I've worked out the timings and the new routine suites me well. It's just that jumping out of bed on the first alarm gets more difficult as the months go buy. But if I don't do it, we'll both be late, which is much less acceptable for her than me.

This morning was particularly nice. Breakfast in the lounge. Probably the best boiled egg of all time. Great coffee. And morning sex.
