Jenn and I have finished our two night stand at the Recher Theatre this week.
Night One…
Wednesday night was Drive By, moneen, Circa Survive, and Saves the Day. We actually got there and left for an hour or so. Drive By and moneen weren’t impressive at all. We walked down the street to Towson Town Centre and walked around. We got back in time to catch the majority of Circa Survive. That band is awesome live. That band is awesome period. I really really dig them. Their set was over and the house lights came up as the stage crew broke down Circa Survive and set up Saves the Day. We were standing aroudn chatting with Meggie, her brother, Chad (Justin’s friend), and the drummer from Chad’s band who’s name escapes me right now. Behind us were these douche bags whom kept bumping into Chad and Meggie. As the lights came down and STD took the stage I got hit with something. It felt like a penny or something. Definetly some denomination of coin currency. I turn to Jenn and say “I just got hit with something. There may be a problem.” As STD breaks into their first song these asses plow their way through us…literally…and make their way up front to start a pit. A pit to STD. I had my eye on the head cockface with the backwards oriole cap. He bumped Jenn and hurt her arm. I was pissed. I was ready to fucking throwdown. Now I’m not the fighting type, but I hate fucking people at shows like that. Plus, they hurt my girl. I don’t play like that. Luckily, they stayed away from us. STD was pretty great, not as great as 9:30 club…but still good. We left before encore.
Night Two…
We arrive to see The Exit, Spill Canvas, and Straylight Run. The Exit was suprising. They were a blend of indie/emo rock and reggae. They had awesome three part harmonies and a sax player. How cool is that? The majority of their set was great. They had good energy and good songwriting. I was pleasently surprised. I plan on buying an album in the near future. Then Jen and I left and hung out at the Barnes and Noble reading books about dogs in the children’s section. Good times. I left my bottled water there. The person responsible for cleaning up probably found it and cursed a child for leaving it. Sorry kids, I’m an adult (most of the time) and I accept responsibility. We arrived thinking that Spill Canvas would be done. Not so lucky. They are a dime a dozens emo band. Singing songs about suicidal love affairs and voices in the head kind of stuff. Yawn. Now for both nights Jenn and I felt old with all the young scenester kids running around, BUT tonight there were a lot of really really badly dressed scenesters. When the Spill my blood and cry about it Canvas was done Jenn and I sat down by the merch table. Big mistake. All these young guys and girls were awaiting the band to make an appearance. I think like the bass player or drummer came out. They were all lined up for pics and autographs. As we sat laughing to ourselves over walked a tall blond wearing what appeared to be an oversized t shirt and some high heels. She proceeded to talk on her cell phone in her annoying overly dramatic voice. Then she tried to work her magic on band boy and try to slut it up. She bent over at one point right in our faces to which Jenn and I shrieked out loud. Her other friends came over in their not-to-thought out attire and luckily Straylight began. They were very good. I love male-female vocal harmonies. We left halfway through their set. The two night stand was over. Both nights we saw Katie Alice. A girl that Jenn and I share as a Myspace friend and she is at pretty much every show. It was a funny coincicdence.
PHEW! I’m done!
Now what do we do tonight???
