Daniel forced himself to keep his mouth shut, giving Jack one of his signature sardonic smiles, until Colonel Young was out of the room with a slammed door.
“He doesn’t like me.” He finally stated matter-of-factly when it was just him and Jack.
With a dismissive sound, Jack pretended to be distracted by the high res photos Daniel had taken just that day. “You are an acquired taste.” He glanced up at his long-time friend for a moment. “Oh, don’t give me that look.”
Daniel continued to stare knowingly at the General. When it was clear Jack wasn’t going to say much more, he sighed and jerked his thumb over his shoulder towards the door. “I guess I’ll just-”
“There’s something for you in your office.”
Crossing his arms, Daniel glared down at Jack over his glasses. “My temporary office. I’m only here until the issues with the Lucian Alliance are under control. I’m still an active member of SG-1…”
Jack looked up at Daniel expectedly. “Daniel…”
“My life is back there, Jack. I can’t be here all the time.”
“Daniel…”
“And though I appreciate you requesting me specifically, and know that it shows that you trust me…”
“Daniel!”
Shifting his feet, Daniel raised his eyebrows high over his glasses. “Jack?”
The older man shook his head. “Would you just go to your office?”
Daniel squinted in response, but gave a nod and turned to leave. “This discussion isn’t over.” He added as he opened the door.
“Don’t recall this being a discussion.” Jack replied back.
Looking back, Daniel grinned with a sweetness bred of a true smartass. “You never do.” With that, he closed the door and made his way down the hallway. He stopped outside of the closed door to his office. His temporary office, though it was hard to tell with the ‘Jackson’ nameplate taking up the center of the door. He was gonna kill Jack.
A sigh escaped as he turned the handle and mentally prepared himself for whatever work Jack had thrown at him now. Sometimes it didn’t exactly pay to be the right hand of the Commander of Homeworld Security. What greeted him on the other side, however, caught Daniel off guard.
“Daddy!” The excited two-year-old squeal preceded the little girl that rushed toward the doorway.
Daniel fell to his knees, enveloping the child in a tight embrace. “Oh my god…” He sighed in shock, pressing a kiss into messy dark hair. “Hi, baby.” The giggle against his neck was warm and infectious and he grinned even as tears pricked the corners of his eyes.
He stood, taking his daughter with him, and turned his attention on the dark-haired vixen leaning back against his desk with a casualty that belied her anxiousness. “Hey to you too.”
“Hey?” Vala repeated, her eyebrows shooting high. “We’ve been separated for almost a month and all you’ve got for me is ‘hey’?”
Daniel rolled his eyes, stepping up to her. “Always so damn needy.” He muttered with poorly masked affection before leaning in and taking her mouth in a proper welcome. Vala smiled and giggled, wrapping her arms around his waist.
He rested his forehead against hers as their kiss ended. “What are you doing here?” Daniel pulled back to look into her all-knowing grey eyes, using his free hand to brush at the hair around her right ear. “I mean,” He glanced at Hayden, who smiled. Daniel smiled as well. “You’re needed back at the base.”
“I know where I’m needed, Daniel.” Vala answered wisely, running one hand she had on his back down to his ass. “And it’s certainly not at the SGC.” She gave his ass a light pat.
It made him flinch a bit and caused Hayden to laugh.
“Don’t do that here.” Daniel ground out, giving her a significant look.
She just grinned brightly. “Then let’s get out of here.”
Vala shimmed out from between him and the desk, taking his hand and dragging him out of the office.
“Vala, I have to-” He felt tiny hands fishing in his pocket, and he looked down to see Hayden had extracted his keys from his leather jacket.
“Work.” Daniel finished in a disbelieving tone, watching his daughter hand off the keys to Vala. The little trouble-making duo had planned this. She then proceeded to lock his office.
Turning back to him, she dropped the keys into his palm and patted it. “Jack messed with some threads-”
“Pulled some strings.” Daniel corrected without a second thought.
She grinned like she knew he’d do it. “Yes, that.” Her hand clamped around his wrist. “And you have the rest of the day off.” Vala tugged him down the hallway, unnoticing of all the people watching them. “So we can all go have some fun elsewhere.”
Daniel pulled back and Vala stopped, pouting. “And how long do we have to…” He looked at Hayden then back to her mother. “Play?”
Despite his not too distant warning, Vala moved up enticingly close and placed a suggestive kiss to his lips. “That…” She stepped back slowly, dropping his hand and backing her way down the hallway. She tugged down her shirt, emphasizing the tightness of it in “certain” places. “Is something you’ll just have to wait and find out.”
Holding out her arms, Vala wiggled her fingers. “Come here, sweetheart.” Hayden squirmed in Daniel’s arms until he put her down. She ran to her mother, who scooped her up with a grand flourish that made the little girl giggle.
Daniel watched them go, his eyes finding it hard to look anywhere but at the sashay of Vala’s ass. He sighed.
“You coming, Darling?” Vala called after him, using a tone he recognized all too well.
No way he could kill Jack now!
