Title: Slip of the Tongue
Summary: As usual, they can never do things simply.
Rating: PG
Spoilers/Warnings: Major hints towards Unending. Think that's it, though.
A/N: Yeah, so my brabbits have been holding out on me for months. Just two days ago, they actually allowed me to get a few sentences out in Word...and then completely took over the entire fic. Thankfully, crazy and out of nowhere works very well for Daniel and Vala.
“Vala…” Daniel chased her down the corridor, trying to match her breakneck pace. “Vala, would you stop please?” He could just barely hear her huff of defiance at his request and he rolled his eyes.
“Sorry, Daniel,” Vala called back over her shoulder. “I’d rather deal with my shame and humiliation in private, thank you.”
Daniel stepped up his pace, gaining on her. “Vala, what are you talking about?” He was more confused than he was sure he’d ever been in the past when it came to this woman. Reaching out, he gently grabbed her arm and halted her escape. He turned her, much to her protest and physical struggle.
“Humiliated about what?”
She let out another huff, this one in annoyance. “How was I supposed to know,” She had adopted her complete innocently and usually false voice. “That the nice young gentleman I was flirting with last night was the son of one of your precious high council’s delegates?”
Daniel started to reply before what she said sunk in. “You weren’t supposed to-” He stopped mid-placating statement and frowned. “Wait, flirted with?”
Grey eyes rolled dramatically. “See, I didn’t know he was some hoity-toity son of somebody special or I never would have put my hand in those places. It was just harmless fun.”
Swallowing thickly, Daniel pouted and frowned even more. “You…touched this kid?”
“Now why’d you have to bring that up, huh?” Vala snapped, trying to pull out of Daniel’s grip. A grip that was growing tighter with every passing second. “I insist you let me go.”
Still with a perplexed and disapproving look on his face, Daniel shook his head. “No.”
“I strongly suggest you do,” Vala turned and made to force her way away from him, but Daniel swung her back around and secured her in place with his free hand against her neck. “Daniel…”
He leaned some, but she jerked her head back. “What are you doing?” She squirmed under his powerful embrace.
“Just…stop moving.” Daniel muttered, squeezing her arm fiercely. Vala gasped.
“But, why…” A hint of uncertainty had crept into Vala’s voice. Every one of her instincts was telling her what this was, but this was Daniel. Daniel.
Daniel moved his hand from the side of her neck to the back, tangling his fingers in her dark hair and tugging hard. “Would you hush already?” He rasped, leaning in again.
Lips mere inches from touching, Vala sighed. “Daniel?”
“Please shut up.” Daniel mumbled, his frustration at her constant questioning coming through as he finally connected his lips to hers.
Vala was too shocked at first to really react to the kiss, instinct driving her as Daniel practically devoured her right there in the middle of an alien corridor. It wasn’t until the hand he had on her arm started to drift that she found her right mind once more.
She pulled back and pushed him away, though it was only just far enough so she would be prepared for another mouth-assault. “Hold, please.” Vala waved her hand in the air erratically at Daniel. “I tell you I flirted with some other guy and you kiss me - like that?!”
Daniel seemed to think about it for a moment before replying with a ‘yes’ of certainty.
Now the one who was completely confused, Vala’s jaw dropped open. “Why?”
“Because you drive me completely crazy and I’m out of my mind?” Daniel laughed, his tone only half suggestive.
Frowning in a way that could’ve rivaled the man across from her, Vala could only gape. Daniel grinned enigmatically and moved to regain their closeness, but Vala waved her hand again and skirted away.
Words finally came back to her. “Oh, no, no…” She pointed at him and squinted. “No more of that until you explain yourself, you…you…pot person.”
“I think you mean pod?” Daniel nodded.
“What?” Vala questioned in confusion and then shook her head. “No, I won’t let you distract me with your confusing language stuff. Just tell me what the bloody hell is wrong with you?!”
Daniel laughed, almost insanely, at this. “With me?! I’m not the one who went storming out of a peace treaty meeting…”
Hand in the air, Vala closed her eyes. “I already told you, I couldn’t imagine my attendance would be appreciated after I had flirted-”
“With the chief delegate’s son.” Her eyes snapped open when she realized Daniel’s voice was far too close as he finished her statement. Vala looked up into blue eyes, filled with… “Yeah, heard you the first time.”
Oh gods, she knew that look! “See, again, there you go!” Vala stepped back, pointing once more. “Always confusing me to no end-”
“You’re confused?!”
“Hot and then cold.” Vala carried on like he hadn’t said anything. “Yes and then no. Up and then down.”
“You do get me up a lot.” Daniel grinned slightly, tilting his head and looking to the floor.
She snapped her fingers. “What is that?!” When Daniel looked up at her, Vala continued. “You don’t say that stuff! I do! You are Daniel and I am Vala and this is all screwed up and…” She closed her eyes and let out a shaky breath. “I don’t understand.”
“Understand that…” Once more, Daniel was closer than before. This time when Vala met his gaze, the look there was familiar and yet altogether different. “I kissed you because I get jealous.”
When Vala opened her mouth to argue against his logic, Daniel placed a silencing finger to her lips. “So extremely jealous, but know that no matter how many guys you toy or flirt with that there’s only one you’ll go all the way with.”
“How can you be so sure?” Vala sighed, finding Daniel’s lips hovering dangerously close.
“Because you love me.” Before Vala could show her surprise at Daniel sudden and unexpected insight, he kissed her. This one lasted longer, invoked more of the feelings she’d tried so hard to suppress from within. When they did finally separate, she rested her cheek against his.
Vala, still with her eyes closed, let him wrap her own arms around his waist before encircling his around hers. “And you know this because…?” The words were light as a whisper against his ear
He placed a tender kiss to the side of her neck. “Mutual acquaintance.”
Her eyes snapped open at the veiled reply. Vala shoved away from him.
Daniel was back to being the confused one. “What?”
“Dead.” She muttered crazily before spinning on her heels and stalking off towards where they’d last seen the rest of the team head to. “Stupid, dead, Jaffa. Thinks he has a grey streak now…”
The first thing Daniel could think was how well the woman was able to read him like an open book. Then it sunk in that she had just done that and… “Vala, wait! Teal’c’s gonna kill me after you kill him…” He took off after her, trying to match her pace as the chase started again.
