Had planned to make this all Christmassy and post it on said day, but decided it'd be better to just leave it as is and post it before Christmas, especially with the exchange coming up. So consider it a sort of pre-exchange treat, if you will.

A/N: Wanted something holiday-ish and this came out...still captured the fluffy I was going for. Thank you to the great
taraleesg1 for helping me with the title!
Daniel crossed his arms and leaned his shoulder into the entryway. His blue eyes fell on the figure taking up space in the lounge chair in his living room. She was the last of his charges to be ushered off to bed.
Yet, with the glow of the fire casting her in such a peaceful light, he was having a hard time finding the will within to move and wake her up. Despite the scratches and scrapes that peppered her face, he was certain he'd never seen a more beautiful sight. Maybe he could let her sleep there for a little bit longer.
She fidgeted in the chair, causing the blanket covering her to shift drastically off the side. Daniel let out a sigh, more out of contentment than anything else, and moved over to where she lay. Bending over, he retrieved the covering from its precarious position and gently draped it across her once more.
Two slivers of grey appeared from beneath dropping eyelids, shining in the firelight. "Mmmm..." She shifted again at the return of the blanket, and of Daniel. "Darling."
"Hey." Daniel finished tucking the edges in around her, and then knelt down. He rested his arms along the arm of the chair. "Didn't mean to wake you." Much like hers had been, his voice wasn't more than a whisper.
Vala smiled sleepily, shaking her head the slightest fraction. "S'okay..."
He nodded, but frowned slightly. Reaching out, Daniel lightly brushed his fingers near the wounds around her left eye, following the line down to her cheek. "You in any pain?" Concern caused him to ask, even as he could tell she wasn't.
"Fine..." She captured his hand with hers, pulling it down to her lap and entwining their fingers together. "Always fine with you around."
Laughing lightly, Daniel shook his head. "See, that can't be true." His focus was on their linked fingers, on the continuous path his thumb was rubbing up and down the side of her hand. "If it was, you'd never have gotten hurt in the first place." His eyes slowly found hers again.
She was still smiling. "Not your fault..." Her free hand came up. "Protected me." She brushed her fingers through his hair and right over the one injury he'd picked up in their latest off-world mishap. Her hand drew back a bit as he winced, and then was lightly brushing around the wound much like he had minutes before. "It hurts."
"A little." He'd never been able to lie to her.
Vala tried to stare him down sternly. "Did you take anything?" She placed her hand on his cheek, turning his full attention on her. If she hadn't been so looped up on painkillers, he might have found it more effective.
He took her hand in his, pulling it down to join the two still in her lap. "I can't..." At her confused and disapproving pout, Daniel smiled and squeezed her hand. "I have patients to look after, remember?"
Her memory jump-started a little more and her eyes widened. "Right..." Vala turned her head to look around the room. "Where'd they go?"
"They," Daniel pushed himself up, extracting his hands so he could lean down with one on each of the arms of chair. Vala looked up at him expectantly. "Have been hauled off to bed, which is where you should be going."
Vala shook her head. "No." At Daniel's smirk and raised eyebrows, she pulled in a deep breath. "Good here." She said on the exhale.
"You'd be better in bed." Daniel said before he could think about it. The giggle Vala let out let him know she wasn't too doped to pick up on the unintentional innuendo. The way she couldn't seem to stop giggling let him know she was just a little too doped in general.
"Okay, definitely bedtime." He started to pull back the blanket he'd only just tucked around her. It snapped her out of her giggle fit.
She tugged on the blanket. "No. Staying right here."
Daniel raised his eyebrows again. "Oh, you are?"
Nodding and smiling big, Vala looked at him with half-lidded, hopeful eyes. "Yes. And so are you."
"I am, huh?" Daniel lowered himself onto one of the arms, leaning across and looking down at her. She stared up at him, not offering so much as a word or nod. All she did was stare and smile wider, her look one of pure, unguarded affection. He felt his chest ache with a sudden awareness of his love for the beautiful creature before him.
He leaned down and took her lips in a tender kiss, the first since the last on Prometheus. She giggled again, softer this time. Daniel pulled up too soon for either of their liking, but placated the pout she adopted with a half-smile.
"Guess I am." He answered for himself, to which a third tiny laugh escaped past her lips. Lips he eagerly touched his to again once he'd maneuvered himself into the chair; Vala snuggled up against his side. Daniel knew she wouldn't be so comfortable after the painkillers wore off and that he'd have a helluva time maneuvering them both out of the chair.
But she looked so good in the firelight...and tasted even better.
Comments and feedback are definitely appreciated.
