Fic: A Sibling Thing (Team/DV)

Jul 23, 2009 20:25

Sam could hear the arguing before she even reached the room the team was sharing. She smiled a fraction, pausing just outside the slightly opened door.

Cam and Vala, of course. The newest editions to the team. They bickered like only a brother and sister knew how to. Sam figured they had bonded over being the new members of SG-1 much like the original members had in the beginning.

Smiling still, she slipped inside and closed the door behind her. The arguing pair never even spared her a glance, continuing on with whatever debate they were in now. Teal’c didn’t look up either, but she figured he’d heard her coming down the hall anyway.

Daniel was the only one to give her a welcoming gaze, looking up from the book in his lap and smiling patiently. Sam nodded at him, clearly understanding. They had set the bar for sibling bickering amongst a team. He easily returned to the local tome, filtering out the childish antics carrying on around him.

Unzipping her tac vest, Sam slipped it off while moving over to the tiny couch Teal’c was occupying. She placed her vest on the floor, against the side of the couch, and then placed herself down next to the Jaffa.

“So what is it this time?” She asked him with amusement.

“Dan Brown.” Teal’c replied with equal amusement.

Eyes going wide just a fraction, Sam looked between Cam and Vala. “What, again?” She caught the small smile Daniel adopted for a moment. His ability to read with such intensity, and yet keep up with a conversation or two at the same time, didn’t surprise her much after so many years.

Cam looked at her from the large armchair he was slouched in. “Yes, again.” He cast a withering gaze at his enemy. “Because someone refuses to listen!”

“To your propaganda and lies?!” Vala laughed dramatically. “Clearly someone is delusional here, and it’s surely not I.” She took a moment to look into the bag of chips she was eating. Definitely not regulation for offworld travel, but when did Vala ever do anything by the rules?

Ducking his head, Cam coughed and muttered. “Yeah, right.”

Vala tossed a chip at him. “You just can’t admit your little book is wrong.”

Cam’s head snapped back up at that one. “Little book?! You’re calling the Bible a little book?!” Sam could see he was about to get into his preacher mode. She’d noticed it resembled the look Daniel got right before lecture mode. She cast another glance at him. He was engrossed back in his book.

Her attention returned to Cameron. She’d missed the beginning of his Bible rant. “-Can’t call it ‘little’! All the symbology and history-”

“Which are also in my books.” Vala interrupted, flashing them all a winning smile.

Cam held up a hand and shook his head. “Yours are nothin’ but fiction. Just some story written down by a man. The Bible is-”

Grey eyes grew completely innocent. “The exact same thing?” As Cameron scowled at her, crossing his arms again, Vala continued to play the part of innocence by twisting a finger in her hair. “It’s true, isn’t it?”

“No!” Cameron argued, as expected. Childishly, also as expected.

“Actually…” Daniel said slowly, looking up from his book. “It is. Stories written down by a man. Well, several men to be completely accurate,” He shrugged, smiling that half smile of his. “But the same general concept.” He jerked his head towards Vala. “She’s right.”

The sigh that followed was annoyed and loud, coming from Cam. “Of course she is, Jackson.” This time, the glare he issued out was directed towards the archaeologist. “But you would agree with Princess here, no matter what!”

Vala jumped up then. “Damn right he would!” She made her way over to where he was sitting, his back against one of the beds. She wiggled her way down between his legs and he shifted to make room for her. Vala rested her back against his chest, still eating her chips. “Because I’m always right!”

Cameron laughed a little. “I’m sure Jackson doesn’t agree to that!”

“No, no…” Daniel mumbled, eyes back on his book. His free hand was running through Vala’s hair absently. “She’s always right.”

Popping a chip in her mouth with a little ‘hmph’ of triumph, Vala smiled smugly at Cam.

He pointed at the pair. “See, now his entire opinion is made pointless because it’s obvious you’ve got him whipped. You haven’t won this argument!”

“But I will…” Vala sing-songed, resting her head back against Daniel’s shoulder, her pulled up legs moving from side to side. The smug smile was still there.

Cam flopped back in his chair, looking as stubborn as ever. “The hell you will!”

The pair continued on, but Sam’s attention was back on Daniel. She watched as he brought his cheek to rest against Vala’s hair, his hand still toying with the dark strands absently. Looking at him, so content for the first time in what seemed like ages, it was hard for her to remember the man who would bicker at her just as Cam and Vala were currently doing.

He looked up at her after a moment. Made a face, tongue sticking out and everything, before once more returning his focus to his book.

“Perhaps…” Teal’c said quietly without looking at her. “Things haven’t changed much at all.”

Sam looked at him. She felt she should’ve been more surprised by the rather psychic statement. And yet, she wasn’t. “No…” Reaching in her pocket, she pulled out the spare hair tie she’d started keeping there. Leaning into Teal’c comfortably, Sam wrapped the tie around her fingers and took aim. “Not really.”

Like she’d let Daniel get away with making a face at her.
