Fic: No Guts, No Glory (DV)

Jun 23, 2009 01:15

So seeing as there was a major 'family' meltdown here tonight (not surprising - comes before every big trip), I'm too pooped to post anything significant before we head off tomorrow. Luckily, I got a fic written today that I think will serve as a good farewell until I can post again post. It's a short little pointless nothing that I was inspired to write after reading a rather hysterical email taraleesg1 sent me.

It's completely unbeta'd (horrible, i know), but I didn't want to leave you guys with NOTHING before I left, so i figured y'all would enjoy a good DV fic!

I'm too tired to categorize everything neatly, so...it's DV, humor/fluff, PG-13 rated, and..., oh hell, guess it needs a proper summary:

Daniel gets a little gutsy from time to time.

(wow, that sucks...but hey, it works).

So here's the fic:

No Guts, No Glory

Daniel all but fell out of the truck, laughing as he clung to the passenger door in an attempt not to collapse onto the sidewalk.

“Do you need assistance, Daniel Jackson?” Teal’c asked, amusement coloring his words, from the driver’s seat.

Shaking his head, still holding onto the door, Daniel managed to straighten up enough so he could look in Teal’c’s general direction. “No, no…I think I’ve got it.” He sort of giggled it out.

Teal’c’s eyebrow rose skeptically. Daniel raised his free hand, trying to get some control over himself. “Really, Teal’c, I’m okay.” He stepped awkwardly to the side and pointed towards the back seat, where Mitchell was sprawled out. “Way better off than him.” At least he’d been able to make it out of the bar on his own accord.

“If you say so, Daniel Jackson.” The humor in Teal’c’s voice had Daniel snorting out a laugh again. “Perhaps I should just wish you luck then?”

This made Daniel laugh outright. “Yes!” He finally let go of the door, stumbling back a few steps as he pointed at Teal’c dramatically, slamming the door shut. “That…would be good.” Daniel mumbled the last bit, closing his eyes and grinning.

“Good luck, Daniel Jackson.” Teal’c said with a smile through the open window, though Daniel still had his eyes closed. Daniel waved absently, opening his eyes slowly in time to see Teal’c pull away. He let his hand fall to his side, watching until the truck was out of sight.

Turning towards his house, Daniel fished the keys out of his pocket while weaving his way up the front yard to the porch. The three short steps proved to be a bit of a hassle, but he managed to make it to the door without too much stumbling and laughter.

Swaying in place, he lifted the keys up close to his face to try and see which one could be the right one. Daniel did is best not to start laughing again for fear of disturbing anyone - especially the someone he knew was going to be beyond pissed as it was.

He finally found the key, or so he assumed, and after a few failed attempts, got it in the lock. It turned effortlessly, to which he couldn’t stop himself from letting out a triumphant little laugh. This only got him giggling again as he tried to quietly push open the door. The mere fact that he was trying to be quiet but was laughing anyway wasn’t lost on him.

Of course the door slipping and slamming shut since he was leaning against it defeated the whole point of stealth. Daniel bit his lip and squeezed his eyes shut, laughter still shaking his body.

“Shit…” He whispered loudly.

“Shit is right.” A low, accented voice whispered from behind him. Daniel winced and turned his head to gaze at the figure leaning against the entryway to the dining room. He attempted to smile apologetically and turned to face her.

And end up flopping back against the door. “Hey…sweetheart.” Daniel blinked and licked his lips, his eyes landing on the item currently resting casually between her hands. “Are you still cleaning?” He was laughing before he even finished his train of thought. “Or were you planning to fly somewhere?”

Vala stepped away from the wall, using the broom as a makeshift walking stick. “Oh, so you think it’s safe to make jokes?” She smiled sweetly. It quickly turned to a grin as Daniel nodded. She nodded right back. “You know for being such a genius…”

“I know…” He whispered as Vala got up close and personal, the broom clattering to the floor beside them. “I’m not really smart at all.” Daniel grinned at her heated grey-eyed stare. “You gonna punish me now?”

She squinted up at him. “I just might.” Vala leaned up and placed a warning kiss to his lips, which left Daniel smiling as she pulled away. She just stared at him for a few moments, watching his unfocused eyes watching her with nothing but amusement.

Vala let out a defeated sigh. “Oh, what good would it do? You’re too drunk to care.”

“Pretty much.” Daniel said triumphantly, giving his eyebrows a quick lift.

She continued to glare at him. “Why did I marry you again?”

Looking away, Daniel tried to think of a good answer. “Because…I’m charming and…adorable…and…” He continued loudly when Vala rolled her eyes at his dramatics and moved to head down the hall to their bedroom. “and unbelievably amazing!”

“Don’t kid yourself, darling.” Vala hollered back. “I only married you because only you have the guts to pull the crap you just did!”
