As I was walking in to work this morning I saw the cafe downstairs showing CNN as it usually does. This morning it was airing news about the 9/11 remembrance in DC this morning. As per usual, the news about what's going on in DC, which I have no problem with.
I know it's been 8 years since the attacks, but I must say I'm rather pleased with the news coverage and remembrances this year. Every other year I have felt as if there has been this element of propaganda attached to the coverage. Let's show the planes crashing. Let's show the smoke plumes. Let's show the Pentagon missing its walls.
I feel like the coverage this year has been more focused on remembering the people and the symbolism of it all as opposed to the actual carnage and death and destruction as caught on video or in still. While I know I will never forget where I was when I first heard of the attacks (Symphonic Band with Mr. Wharton), I am glad that this year it seems we're focusing more on honoring the people as opposed to stirring up vengeful emotions.
Well done, CNN.
