My fic,
Out of Place is really starting to zip along. And I'm pretty much coming to the end of the story. I could've ended it a little sooner, but I got some ideas for things I just had to put in there, which has lengthened it a tad. But I hope readers feel it's been lengthened in a good way, and not in a, "This is boring and drawn out," way. I'm trying to keep the excitement level high. In fact, I'm wondering if it's a little too high.
Anyway, I've decided to take a break on crossovers for a while (even as I keep getting new ideas for them). Writing them is can be a lot of fun, but also very challenging. You have to keep in mind that some people might not be familiar with both fandoms, so you have to try to bring them up to speed. Also, that the characters don't know things about each other, so you have to decide how and when it will all be revealed, and whether or not it's a good idea (or even necesaary) to reveal certain things. And all that makes character development, action, dialogue, etc., that much more complicated.
I'm looking to write a fic where there's only one fandom, and it's a safe bet most of the readers of the story already know the history of the characters and the show. Then, I can focus on other things.
Still, I do love writing crossovers. I'm just taking a break.
That doesn't mean I can't post my crossover ideas as challenges. Just because I'm not writing them--at the moment--doesn't mean I don't want to read them. :)
