First, a half-hour documentary about Steve Earle, whose records I've never heard before, but
immortalradical seems to be a fan. It was called Pop & Politics, and focused heavily on his left-wing views - "Capitalism's fine as an economic system, it just makes a lousy religion." Nice. His music seems pretty good too.
Then an hour of Gillian Welch in concert. Not quite up there with the gig we saw last year, put damn fine all the same. David Rawlings plays solos which really shouldn't work on an acoustic guitar, but he makes them through sheer force of will. Rock.
All in all, a pretty good way to spend a Friday evening. A couple of years ago, I had absolutely zero interest in country music. I'm never going to embrace the genre fully, but thanks to
wg and others, I'm at least prepared to give country artists a listen these days, and for that I'm glad.
