Mission Statement

(Friday, 10 August 2007)

I made my final(?) walk down 3rd Street to U of L today. After three months of me waiting, the university had finally printed up our degrees. It was a scorching hot (100F +) day. I think I got a sunburn from the forty or so minutes of walking. The woman at the front desk had me sign in a book and then handed me a fancy piece of paper that was about 1 and a half times the size I was expecting. This was the closure I had been looking forward to.

August has been a transitional month for me. I've been moving one carload at a time day by day for the last couple weeks. My current lease in Old Louisville expires on August 14th. I decided not to stay there another year for several reasons: We couldn't find somebody to take Alisa's room, I don't like the landlord, I found Maria's clean freak/anti-guest tendencies somewhat confining and Old Louisville is relatively far away from where I work now.

I'm trying something new with my living arrangements this time. This is a blind and potentially risky experiment. One thing I was looking though for was more chaos and spontaneity in my living situation. Maria would always complain if Alisa or I had friends over too late or to sleep over. She liked for the apartment to be completely silent and all the lights off by 11:00 every night. Needless to say, I haven't been able to make the most of my living situation this past year. My solution you may ask? I just started living with a two-house community of young gay men right off of Bardstown Rd. in the Highlands.

Let me list the players and set the scene for you.

Next door in the 2022 House:

Thomas- 25 yrs, social butterfly who is fond of throwing sexually-charged parties and gatherings , runs an online home mortgage consulting company, former college student, plays the piano nicely, likes to drink bourbon, somewhat catty and manipulative, very competitive and has a large ego. He is the owner and landlord of the two houses and I dated him briefly a few months ago.

Greg- 23 yrs, former college student and mental institution employee, strong sex drive, manipulates people through being bitchy, cleans and does jobs around the house for Thomas to pay rent, good conversationalist, one of Thomas's closest friends and confidants.

Aden- early 20's?, star of several pornographic films, currently dating Greg. I haven't known him very long.

Drew- 21 yrs, former college student, son of wealthy parents and employed by high-end Louisville restaurant Proof on Main, frat boyish aura, lush, pilot with his own plane, prissy and somewhat bitchy, goes through guys faster than he does clothes.

Kyle- 22 yrs, somewhat serious, dates a lot, details cars at Circuit City, intellectually curious.

Arty- 29 yrs, college graduate, former Los Angeles resident, works at Blockbuster Video, pleasant and amiable, currently dating frequent guest Frank.

In my house:

Jaremii- 24 yrs, longtime friend and former employee of Thomas's, very social and gracious, likes to tell stories, currently works at O'Charly's Restaurant, carefree, in a long term relationship with Josh.

Josh- 22 yrs, somewhat shy and reserved at first, complex, intellectual, somewhat closeted, works at K.T.'s restaurant.

The houses are located on a posh and wealthy parkway right in between the largest and most beautiful parks in the city and Bardstown Rd., a long stretch of trendy restaurants, coffee shops, small stores, pubs and bars. The two houses are old and grand but in poor repair.

Throughout this one year experiment, I shall record the melodrama and misadventures of this small community for my own amusement and for posterity. Through this journal and my association with this community I hope to gain some insight into the lives of these fine young men and by extension the complexities of the young American gay male experience.
