And so it happened. At the age of 29 I saw my first ballet. I thought the classic of all the classics is a good place to start. I think seeing Swan Lake is part of the general cultural knowledge so I´m glad i finally did it. I invited my friend and her mom and sister. It plays in the beautiful State Opera House and we had our own box for four people. It was fancy evening. Neither of us has ever seen Swan lake before so it was a premiere for all of us. I always assumed that watching ballet for over two hours wouldn´t be fun but it surprisingly flew by very fast. This production kept very close to the original choreography so you could see all the classic „pas de deux“.
Apparently Swan Lake has several alternative endings. Up until yesterday I thought that the tragic ending with Odette dying was the only possible end. So you can imagine my surprise when our version had happy ending. Love defeats the evil. And apparently the happy ending is the original version. You learn something new every day. I was little upset though, I was expecting something as dramatic as in the Black swan movie:D Also, in the movie, they made it sound like it´s something extremely inovative that Odette and Odille would be played by one ballerina. That´s exactly what I got in Prague. The movie is slowly loosing points. But anyway, all the ballet dancers with the bunheads looked same to me. If another dancer started to play Odette in the middle of the show I wouldn´t even notice it.
I like the central music of this ballet and the escalating finale played by the live orchestra is really amazing. It was so pretty that I didn´t even mind the happy ending. It was nice evening and I´m open to seeing more ballet in the future.
