A letter to my CV

Dear Curriculum Vitae,

You are driving me up a wall. Why? Because I am not an academic. Not in the slightest. I'm an artsy-fartsy theatre person who has serious gaps in her history when it comes to matters of academia. Thank the Lord I wrote an honors thesis; it makes me look like an actual scholar of something or other. Thus, your appropriate format continues to elude me. Do I make a section for technical credits? Is one thesis really worth its own academic writings section? How shold I differentiate between established, original, and collaborative works? And where on earth do I slip in that I am hosting a big, gay TV show in Chicago?

Also, you make me feel like a big theatre braggart. I don't like spending hours trying to figure out how to tell the world what a big, important theatre artist I am. What are you doing to my spirit, CV?!

I will be happy to be rid of you by March 3. Til then, I will continue to fight you to the death. And by "death," I mean "satisfactory completion." Take that, CV. Take that.

Your master,
DK

silliness, scholarship, letter
