So my friend chocolatebark, has decided to revive LJ by causing a mass round-robin set of posts (http://chocolatebark.livejournal.com/812469.html).

My topic: How does the way you present yourself in face-to-face interactions differ from how you present yourself online?

I've been thinking about it and I think that essentially I'm not that different online from my real life self. However, it's easier to get closer faster online so I think my online interactions are much closer to the interactions I have in real life with my closest friends. I act differently with them than I do with my neighbors, coworkers, etc. And I think it's because I got to know my best friends during college. In college you have tons of free time to have the long, meandering conversations and really get to know people and be comfortable with them. The thing about LJ is it's the same. I've had conversations with people in comment threads that can span over days. It allows me to get to know people relatively quickly and my guard goes down a bit I think.

I think I'm also a lot more likely to show off things I'm proud of online. I'm sort of an attention whore in some ways. But my journal is a place where I can be one.

What else? Well obviously my online persona doesn't have my real life face behind it.

I'm actually interested to hear from those of you who know me both online and in real life: how do you think I differ in the two environments?
