kpopfickink entry: Brown Eyed Girls, Miryo/Narsha

Aug 19, 2011 14:40

AN: Summer is back on kpopfickink, and I decided to fill prompts, because my current WIPs are, well, stalling.
Pimpage: list of prompts, filled prompts

Pairing: Miryo / Narusha
Rating: PG
Genre: slice-of-life
Prompt: Narsha is a busker trying to make a living on the busy streets of Seoul. Miryo is a repeat customer. Somewhere between yet another acoustic rendition of "Omona" and Miryo buying Narsha supper and a change of clothing, they fall in love.

Grind the beans, boil the water, whisk the cream, etc.

It’s a practiced routine Miryo knows by heart and her hand doesn’t
tremble when it traces a caramel squiggle in the foamy cream covering the
latte.

She puts the cup on a tiny trail with a napkin because there is no reason
not to.

When she lays the trail on the sidewalk, it makes a metallic sound, and
the busker is interrupted mid-verse, mouth stuck into an ‘O’.

“-mona,” she finishes with a smile for Miryo. “Thanks,” she mouths
during the break.

“You should come under the porch of the café,” Miryo tells her
in-between songs. “It’s going to rain.”

She goes back to her customers.

Narusha the busker becomes somewhat of a regular at the café, singing
under the porch when the weather is bad, in the street when it’s sunny.

At night Miryo invites her in and offers her the leftover sandwiches and
crumpets from the day.

They talk about their lives.

Miryo tells Narusha about Seulong, Narusha tells her about Jinwoon and
Seunghyun and Byunghee and-

Miryo loses count.

“She seems interesting,” Gain says.

“Yes,” Miryo agrees.

“So,” Gain says, “are you interested?”

July rain is heavy and relentless, and Narusha hasn’t shown up yet.
Miryo keeps an eye on the street while taking orders.

It seems like all of Seoul has decided to take refuge in her coffee shop
that day.

Narusha shows up just before closing, and she’s drenched in rain. Water
rivulets make her short hair stick to her forehead in a way that shouldn’t be
either cute or attractive.

Miryo carefully picks her softest teeshirt and a freshly ironed pair of
sweatpants. (She irons her sweatpants. Gain says it’s stupid.)

“Thank you,” Narusha says, blowing on a cup of steaming tea. “By the
way, my real name is Hyojin.”

She tells Miryo she’s been kicked out of her apartment.

“My landlord was a bitch,” is her only comment.

“You’re free to stay,” Miryo tells her.

Narusha shakes her head: “No. I’ve got a plan.”

The plan is called Jeah- “Hyojin The Second, actually,” Jeah says, and
she’s loud and breaks two coffee cups in a row.

“Get out of here, you walking typhoon,” Narusha tells her. “Sorry,” she
adds for Miryo. “We’re going.”

Now, whenever Narusha shows up, there’s Jeah in tow and she keeps
peering at Miryo with inquisitive eyes.

“You like her,” she tells Miryo once, when Narusha is in the bathroom.

“I need to meet that person,” Gain says. “We have a lot in common.”

“I thought you were getting married,” Miryo points out.

Gain waves a dismissive hand. “That’s irrelevant. And besides, he’s a
moron.”

Narusha is leaving Seoul; she and Jeah are going on a road trip to the
South.

“We bought matching helmets,” Jeah says.

“Isn’t it dangerous?” Miryo asks. “Motorcycles…”

It’s five a.m on a Sunday morning and Miryo and Gain stand cuddled
together for warmth at the doorstep of the café.

“Time to say goodbye!” Jeah pipes up. She crushes them both into a hug,
knocking their heads with her pink helmet.

Narusha is holding hers (blue) and first she walks to Gain, squeezes her
shoulder and says: “Take care,” before turning to Miryo.

“Bye,” Miryo says softly.

“Yes,” Narusha says, “Bye- wait.”

Wait and then she’s leaning and just- pressing her lips to Miryo’s.

There are surprisingly no catcalls, no whistles, just Gain patting her
on the shoulder, and Miryo fits her smile against Narusha’s.

“My name,” Miryo whispers, “is Mihae.”

For a year, Miryo keeps receiving postcards from lost places in the
countryside.

And then Narusha comes back.
