Brandi Carlile

Hello all! I saw Brandi Carlile in concert tonight in Minneapolis (Varsity Theater, Dinkytown). this was her 6th performance in Minneapolis in 9 months. (more times than she's played her hometown, she claims.) she loves this town! During the "encore" (which was more like a second set for how long it was), she asked us "Do you guys watch 'Grey's Anatomy?'" "Woooooo!" we said. (that meant yes.) I thought to myself, "if it weren't for that show, i wouldn't be here!" She said that the day before yesterday was her birthday, and she got the 1st season on DVD. should only take a few nights in the tour bus to watch that. She said, for those in the audience not already aware, that they used three of her songs last season. the best part is she gets a copy of the script ahead of time to she can review how the song will be used. "So i wasn't surprised when she died," she said. "Poor Melanie." and the audience was kinda quiet, either thinking to themselves, "who was melanie, and when did she die??!?" or "aw, poor melaine. *moment of silence*" but i think she was kidding. but anyways, she said they re-recorded this song for an epsiode, then proceeded to play "Tragedy (austin cello version)" which i knew was going to happen the minute i saw the cellist on stage. (here's that song if you don't have it already.
She started the show with a Bob Dylan song (don't remember which one), which was fitting since Dylan played on the streets of Dinkytown during his like one semester at the U of Minn. don't think he was the collegiate type. In between her own songs, the opening singer, Gran Bel Fisher (which makes me think of a grand mal seizure) came out and attempted to sing Radiohead's "Creep." Brandi knew way more words than he did. She always finishes the show with "hallelujah," so there's no need to constantly yell "Hallelujah!!!" during the show, unless you are truly having a relgious experience.
In conclusion, Brandi's very good in concert, and you should see her (and the Twins, "Mai Tai" Tim and "Sex on the Beach" Phil) on tour if you can. or at least buy her CDs.
