I'm thinking about getting a budgie or two when the weather warms up some. I used to have them when I was younger and they are so entertaining. I know they say to never give them a mirror (they will get attached to the bird in the mirror and not be as tame of a pet) but I always gave mine mirrors and never had any trouble with taming them. Plus they are so freaking funny in front of the mirrors!
I think the kids would really enjoy having birds in the house. Although the seed and feather mess isn't that great, lol!
See, I don't think the cat would enjoy having another pet in the house. She wants it to be all about her. She's the jealous type. And considering how she reacts to birds outside she'd probably rather eat any small pets. I mean, she eats any and all insects that come inside all ready.
She might... but you could be surprised. If you get a larger bird, say a cockatiel, the bird can generally hold their own with the cat.
I'll have to look for the picture and scan it in, but once upon a time I had a cockatiel that used to snuggle into the cats' fur. She also used to walk around on top of the cabinets in our apartment and knock wicker baskets down onto the cats while they ate. XD. I know she was doing it on purpose because she'd watch them fall and then when the cats looked up she'd back up out of sight.
She also used to love to drink out of the cats' water dish... and take baths in it too!
Man, I really need to find some pictures. I know this must sound crazy, lol.
Okay I found one picture of Gabby(the bird) relaxing with Conan (our now-deceased Persian). Gabby had been snuggling in his fur, but when she saw me coming with the camera, she perked up and got the WTF look on her face. XD
