I was reading this FAN FIC about us Juniors and its so sad! Prepare the tissues! Kate told me about it and now im saddddd :(
Prologue
It hard to be misunderstood. It really is, and I just don't get it. Some people show pity towards you and others just pretend to be your friend because of the... accident. If only I could go back in time, back to last year. Things would be the way they were before. I'm so upset, I don't get why bad things happen to good people. They didn't do anything wrong, they didn't derserve what came there way. It makes me so angry that I was the only one to survive it, and I don't get why it had to happen... to any of us!!! This "trap" I'm stuck in, I hate it! The wheels spin, and I use my arms to power it, instead of my legs. I miss being able to run and dance and... live life to the fullest! What happened to my life?!
Chapter 1
"Morgan, can you please come here?" His mom asked from the next room.
"Sure," He replied, and tried to get up to walk. But, like so many other times before, he forgot about the accident, and instead grabbed the wheels to his "trap" and slowly rolled them into the kitchen.
"What mom?" He asked, a little more sternly then he had meant too. He was just fustrated about his wheelchair again.
"Can you help me with dinner?" She asked, "You only seem to watch TV in a fog these days". She passed him a vegetable peeler and a sack of potatoes, and returned to the stove. Morgan started to peel, but while he worked, went into a daze again.
*FLASHBACK*
"Hi!" Jordan yelled squealing, rushing over to Morgan, "Its been like FOREVER! But only... not..."They laughed, and hugged.
It's true, they hadn't seen each other for 3 monthes because of school and their seperate lives. But the Thompsons didn't want the 10 juniors to forget the amazing summer they had all had that year, so they decided to throw a Christmas bash, inviting everyone! The first two to arrive were Morgan and Jordan, and they walked in the house together, and were happily greeted by two shrilling sisters.
"Hi!" Tori exclaimed jumping on Jordan, and almost knocking her over, "How have you been!?!?"
"Calm down Tori!" Taylor said to her sister, "mom said if we break anything because we are so excited, we will be paying for it from our allowences!"
"Okay," Tori replied, slowly letting go of her jump-hug off a heavy breathing Jordan and calmly collected herself.
"I've...been...good..." Jordan puffed, rubbing her neck, "Do you have to attack me each time we see each other Torz?". The four friends all laughed, when the doorbell rang.
"Hey, what's up?" AJ's voice rang, when Tay opened the door, and she did a Tori stunt by hug jumping AJ, almost killing him in the process.
"Tay, your sufficating me!" AJ managed to make out, being squeezed so hard and all.
"Oops... sorry," Tay said sheepishly, "I've just missed you so much!"
AJ and Tay went into the house, where the five all moved into the living room with Morgan and AJ laughing loudly. They all sat talking for another few minutes, when the door bell rang again. Tori rushed to the door and swung it open, where she was immediately embraced by the Katelyn, Lucy and Chantel AKA the "Terrific Trio" and accepted them giving her all the attention like good ole' times. Morgan moved to the door as well, and greeted the three girls with joy.
"I've missed you guys so much!" he said happily, hugging the closest girl to him (Lucy), "It's great to see everyone again... I was beginning to think you forgot me!"
"Never!" Chantel exclaimed, playfully giving him a peck on the cheek, "We could never forget you if we tried."
"Oh, and we've tried!" Katelyn joked, with Morgan giving her that "look" when they all burst out laughing.
Withen the next five minutes, both Danielle and Chauncey arrived and were also excited to see everyone again.
After the greet-and-greet (they've all met, so no meet-and-greet) they all sat down in the living room and discussed what they have all been up to.
"School has been great!" Jordan said, "We just won our cheerleading competition in November, and I've been passing with honours in the lastest term."
"Thats great Jordie!" Danielle said happily for her friend, "The band has been going well, and we are almost set to release our first CD in Feburary. The other four band members nodded in agreement.
"Well, I have been keeping busy myself, what, with all my adoring fans..." AJ shot out another joke again, "but seriously, I have already been offered 3 record deals! My parents are still deciding though."
"Yea, Katelyn and me just bought studio time," Chantel piped up, "We are starting out own duet band, 'Pure Imaginry'!"
"It's a lot of fun, and if you don't mind Luce," Katelyn said, "We'd like to feature you in a song with us."
The three girls continued their conversation, while the other seven moved on.
"I have been having a really good time," Morgan told them, "I have been busy with dance and schoolwork, and I have also been offered some contract deals too."
"Us too!" Katelyn and Chantel popped in, then returned talking with Lucy.
"Yea, me too, but I am looking into acting as well," Jordan proudly stated, "my mom says I'm a natural."
"Wow, so no worries then," Taylor happily said to her friends, "we are all well on our way with stardom! We are like..."
"The Britneys and Justins of tomorrow!" Tori finished.
Everyone laughed, when Tami (the Thompsons mom) walked in the room.
"We're going out skating at a nearby rink, I hope everyone remembered their skates!" She told the kids. They all said they did, then they pilled into the Thompson van.
Since their was only 6 seats for the juniors (None of them could drive, so Mrs. Thompson filled the driver's seat), Morgan and Danielle shared a seat, Taylor and Katelyn sat together, Chantel and Lucy shared another seat and the rest sat in the remaining spots, with Tori in the front.
"Here we go!" Mrs. Thompson said, starting up the car.
Chapter 2
"Ouch, dammit!" Morgan cursed.
"Morgan!" his mother sternly said, "What happened to my sweet little boy? Never did you use language like this!"
"I'm sorry mom, I won't do it again," Morgan said with embarressment, and disappointment at getting yelled at from his mom, "but I cut my finger."
He held it up to show his mom, and she gasped a little.
"What were you doing boy?" she asked wildly, as she grabbed the first aid kit from under the sink, "Surely if you were paying attention the veggie peeler couldn't of cut you, let alone that deep". She put on some anti-bactirial lotion (which stung, and Morgan's eyes watered a bit), and covered it up with a bandaid.
"I don't know," He tried explaining, "Just... thinking..."
FLASHBACK (From where we left off)
"Wee!" Jordan squeeled as she circled the rink, "This is fun!". The ten Juniors had all just arrived at the outdoor skating rink, and were lacing up their skates, and putting on hats and mittens.
"Brrr.." Lucy shook from the cold, "It's kind of chilly out here."
"But fun none the less!" Katelyn added.
When everyone had their skates on snuggly, the brisk silent night was no longer that. The ten friends were yelling and giggling from excitement, and all in all having fun.
The three boys were having little competitions, such as who can skate the fastest or who can circle the rink the most. Chauncey also added in who can fall over the most, since well, he never was much of a skater.
The Terrific Trio were all circling the rink hand-in-hand laughing and talking about a whole bunch of crazy stuff. Chantel kept stumbling so Katelyn and Lucy helped her out... Chantel was with Chauncey, she never really liked skating that much.
Tori, Taylor and Jordan were mainly just circling the rink as well, though, laughing and bumping into poor Chauncey.
Meanwhile, Danielle was showing off her skating talent. She used to figure skate, so she was jumping around, doing axels and such, and having a lot of fun. Morgan watched in awe.
Truth, he had a small "thing" for Danielle, that seemed to be growing.
"She's pretty, smart, talented, nice, caring, funny and so much more!" he thought to himself, just when he slipped and fell over.
"Ouch," he whined, as he smacked his head hard on the ice, and rolled over, acting dead.
Danielle came circling by at the moment, but hadn't seen Morgan fall. She was just about ready to execute another jump when she saw him lying in her path.
"Morgan!" she shrieked, "Get out of the way! OOUF!"
She landed right on top of Morgan and also bumped her head.
"oww..." she moaned sitting up, "Morgan, what are you doing?!?"
"Oops... sorry..." He said sheepishly, blushing (fortunately the frost had already nipped his cheeks making them rosy), "I was just.... playing dead..."
They laughed and helped each other up. Meanwhile, the Terrific Trio watched from the other side of the rink as the two laughed together.
"What flirts!" Chantel exclaimed, "Anyone can see those two have a crush on each other."
"Yeah," Katelyn giggled, "we should set them up!"
"Totally!" Lucy agreed, laughing a bit as well, "after all, that's what we Terrific Trio girls are here for!"
The three girls high fived and vowed to try and set them up ASAP. Little did they know they wouldn't have that chance...
Chapter 3
"Morgan, what his wrong with you these days?". It was dinner time at the Burke household, and Morgan was once again thinking about the accident.
"Jeez dad, think about it..." Morgan said sarcastically.
"Don't talk to me like that!" His dad sternly said, "I don't care about the circumstances, I don't want to be disrespected."
"WHAT THEN?!" Morgan yelled back, "YOU DON'T CARE THAT 9 OF THE CLOSET FRIENDS I HAVE EVER HAD DIED IN A FREAK ACCIDENT?!"
"He never said that hunny..." Mrs. Burke said quietly to her son.
"THEY DIDN'T DESERVE IT!" Morgan continued to yell (not hearing his mom), "NOT ONE OF THEM! I WISHED I DIED WITH THEM! I SHOULDN'T BE THE ONLY ONE ALIVE!".
Morgan looked around the table. His brother stared at him, while his dad gapped his mouth and his mom put her hands over her eyes. Morgan stared at all of them, tears slowly coming and rolling down his cheeks.
"Look at me..." He whispered, "I'm a freak! I don't want to be living, I just want to be with my friends..."
He rolled away from the table, wiping his eyes.
"I don't want to be alone... why'd they have to leave me?" he thought, bringing more tears.
FLASHBACK
"It's snowing!" Tori gasped with happiness, "It NEVER snows in Cali!"
"Yeah, it's so pretty!" Tori agreed, and looked up at the sky.
All of the juniors stopped and looked at the glistening snow.
"Okay," Jordan piped up, "right now! Let's make a pact that we will never go on without each other. That whatever happens to any of us, we will always remember each other and love each other."
"I agree," AJ put his hand on top of Jordan's.
"Me too," Chantel and Lucy said at the same time, placing their chilly hands on top of the other two's.
"What the heck, me three!" Danielle agreed, and stuck her hand on top as well. The rest of the juniors all came over and all put there hands in as well.
"Friends forever on the count of three," Katelyn said, "1...2...3!!!"
"FRIENDS FOREVER!!" They all shouted really loudly, each raising their hands.
*20 minutes later*
"Brr... its getting really cold..." Chauncey said, shivering madly.
"And late," Lucy said, looking at her silver butterfly watch on her wrist, "It's almost 10:30!"
"And the snow is really picking up, I bet we will be in for a snowy storm!" Chantel added as well.
All ten friends nodded, and hopped off the ice. They all helped each other take off their skates, and headed back to the car where Mrs. Thompson waited patiently.
"Hey kids!" She greeted as they all got back into the car in their original spots, "Have fun?"
"LOTS," Taylor said excitedly, "We should get together more often!"
Mrs. Thompson started up the car, with a rumbling engine.
"It's really dark," Danielle said quietly in Morgan's ear (as she sat on his lap), "I'm scared of driving in the dark."
"It's okay Dani," Morgan soothed her, "Nothing will happen, I won't let it happen,"
She snuggled in close to him, and pecked him a little kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks Morgan," she replied with a smile, "You're a great friend."
Morgan smiled to himself.
"Life is perfect..." he thought to himself. Little did he know, that would all be turned around... soon too.
Chapter 4
As soon as he could, Morgan got up the stairs into his room (using his wheelchair contraption) and out of his chair onto his bed (again, using another contraption). He turned himself over, and began to cry into his pillow... hard. He couldn't get it all out of his mind... what happened, the fact his friends were gone, that he couldn't face his parents anymore, let alone any of his fans...
"I wish I was gone too..." he cried harder into his pillow, "I want to be with them..."
FLASHBACK
"Mrs. Thompson, can we slow down a bit?" Danielle asked with a worried tone evident in her voice, "It's really blowing up a storm and its dark..."
"Don't worry Danielle, we will be alright," She re-assured her and the rest of the kids, "Nothing to worry about..."
Suddenly one of the windshield wipers snapped off and was carried away by the wind.
"Uhh... mom, can we please stop?" Taylor asked as well, "I'm scared."
"Hold on, we'll be home soon," Mrs. Thompson replied.
It continued to howl outside, and the snow was piling up.
"Can't... see..." The Thompson's mom mumbled.
Tori heard her mom and started to cry.
"Mommy please!" she begged, "Please pull over."
"I can't! I can't see the road!" Her mom started to panick as well.
"WATCH OUT!!!" AJ yelled suddenly pointing straight ahead. Through the thick snow on the window, you could see a pair of lights... head lights... hurdling towards to van.
"Ahhhh!!!" Tori screamed, just as Mrs. Thompson swereved the car to the right.
All ten kids shrieked, when the car rolled off the road slowly, and plunged to the ground beside it...
END OF FLASHBACK
"Ahh!!" Morgan screamed. He awoke with a start.
"I was dreaming... I was dreaming..." he repeated to himself, tears wetting his cheeks again. The scene in which the accident had happened was haunting him... when he was asleep, when he was awake...
Morgan's mom burst into his room suddenly.
"Are you okay hunny?" She asked in a rush, concerned for her son and his trauma.
"umm..." he bit his lip, as flashback pictures kept entering his mind, "no...". Another tear escaped his chocolate-brown eyes, and he kept shaking.
"Why mom, why?" Morgan cried into his mom's shoulder.
"I don't know..." she answered truthfully.
FLASHBACK
Dead silence. Morgan woke up stirring a bit, and feeling very dizzy and sick to his stomach.
"What the..." he moaned, slowly feeling his head, and feeling a warm liquid on his hand. He slowly focused in on it...
"blood?" he shrieked and looked around quickly. Darkness, and a small stir from behind him. Then he remembered it... rolling down a hill... the screams coming from his friends... the car rolling over... glass shattered... sickening thuds... Something hitting him in the head, and falling...
"Help!" Morgan yelled, and tried to unbuckle his seatbelt. He had a sharp pain in his left ribcage, and it forced him to sit back down.
"Where are my friends? Are they okay?" The thoughts quickly entered his mind. Her gasped, and hoped to god they were alright. The car was pitch black tho, he could hardly see a thing. He breathed in and out, and knew he just HAD to get up. He again tugged at his seatbelt, and it came off. He pushed himself up with his hands (for some reason, he couldn't feel his legs).
"I need to get help, I need to help them..." he kept thinking, frantically looking around again.
He reached up and tried to put the light in the car on. It flickered and a little light came on. That's when he saw it. Danielle at his feet, her hair covering her face, soaked red... and she wasn't moving. Infact, she looked dead cold...
Chapter 5
*The next morning*
Morgan woke up in his bed, feeling lousy. He had dreamt of the entire accident again. He rubbed his eyes, forcing tears back. He had never planned on ever hurting like this. Well, then again, he hadn't planned on seeing 9 ppl on their deathbeds either... But these were more than people, they were his friends! Some of them were like brothers and sisters, and other he cared for more deeply with feelings...
"Like Danielle..." he thought.
He slowly moved himself into his wheelchair, and rolled over to his closet. He picked out some clothes for the day. He pulled off his Tee shirt, and threw on his black sweater and slowly attempted to remove his pants.
"It'd difficult though when your legs just limp there!" He thought angrily. For the past 4 monthes (since the accident) Morgan couldn't remember a time he had actually been happy. He had faked it for his mom's birthday, and when his grandparents came to visit... but he hadn't been geniunly happy since he had been skating. After weeks of conselling, and many days spent crying alone in his room, he thought he would start to feel a little better.
"But no," his mind said, "I can't, not when I am so... lonely."
Morgan felt more than just a little guilty. Each time he thought of one of his friends or singing or his life or ANYTHING a twang of guilt surged through him. He hated the fact he was the only person who lived, he hated the fact that he was "trapped" in a wheelchair, he hated the fact he had pushed away his family each time they tried to help.
"I hate ME..." he thought.
FLASHBACK
"Dani!?!" Morgan yelled and grabbed her up. He placed her on his lap, and moved her hair from her face. More blood came pouring out from a large, deep gash in her forehead, and splashed on to Morgan. She still didn't move though. She didn't wince, didn't moan, didn't even blink...
"Is she..." Morgan thought, "no! It's not! This is just a dream! I will wake up!!!"
He shook her a little
"Dani, please wake up, PLEASE! Don't be..." he said, tears coming and falling onto her blood-stained face. But then, she slowly opened her eyes.
"Morgan," she groaned quietly, and shifted her eyes to meet his.
"Dani!" He gasped, "You're... alive!". He happily looked at her, and stroaked her back again.
"Morgan, I.. can't... breathe... well..." she said with all her might, trying to reach her friend.
"Shh... don't talk..." he said, with more tears falling freely now, "Dani, I have to say this now, I don't think I will get another chance..."
He nodded and gulped wiping more tears away, then holding Danielle's hand.
"I have loved you since I met you," he began, "You were like my best friend for the whole show, and now... I really don't want to lose you. I can't stand the thought, please don't leave me! I... I... I love you Danielle White, with all my heart. No matter what, I will always love you... forever..."
Danielle blinked back some tears of her own.
"I...love...you...too...Morgan...Burke," she spoke for the last time, the slowly closed her eyes.
"Dani?" Morgan said quietly, "Dani!?"
She didn't move, and her hand was limp.
"Come... come back!" He yelled in a panic, "I love you! Don't leave me! Danielle..." He cried into her shoulder, "Don't go..."
Chapter 6
It was time for breakfast in the Burke house, but Morgan insisted he wasn't hungry. It was truth though, he was feeling rather sick to his stomach (like many times these days). He rolled into the living room, and grabbed the TV flicker. Channel after channel afte channel... He flipped through each station twice!
"Nothing!" He thought angrily, and he rolled to go into the kitchen. The door was locked though, and he heard voices from inside.
"I thought the concilling would help," Mrs. Burke whispered to her husband, "but he seems to be slipping more and more."
"And he's always in a daze," His father added, "And what about those nightmares?"
Morgan realised they were talking about him, and the accident. He gulped.
"I don't know what to do," Mr. Burke started up again, "We could go into hypnoisis..."
As soon as Morgan heard that, he filled with anger. He clenched his sweaty fists around the wheelchair, and spun himself out of the house.
He rolled and rolled down to the nearby cemetrary, where his nine friends had been buried.
"HYPNOSIS?!?" he exploded, "THEY WANT ME TO FORGET!"
Tears welled in his eyes again, out of fustration, anger, sadness, loneliness, guilt...
"I just can't do this anymore..." he thought.
He rolled up the familar path with led him to 9 headstones. He stopped along the way and picked nine beautiful flowers. He continued up the dirt path and started to let the tears fall freely, like every other turn.
First gravestone, Tori Thompson. Morgan looked at it with sorrow, and read the engravement slowly
"In our hearts forever, and a true friend to all. God has taken another angel back to the heavens. Daddy's little girl forever."
He ran his fingers over the lettering, and remembered all the times him and Tori had spent together. Laughing during rehearsals, joking over every little thing, and bickering over what movies to watch. Her cuteness when she cried, her little giggles, and her secret crush on Chauncey... she never got the chance to live her life.
"I will always remember you Tori Thompson..." he whispered.
FLASHBACK
"Danielle..." Morgan whimpered. He looked down at had once been a little girl, full of life, giving so much to the world and expecting nothing in return.
"Don't go..." he whispered, and let go of her hand. It dropped to her side, hanging, with a trickle of blood running down it. Morgan bent over and gave her their first and last kiss on her pale, cracked lips.
"You're with the angels now..."
He lifted her up and slowly put her on the car seat where another pool of blood began to puddle.
Morgan still knew he had to see his other friends and try to save them... even if he knew he didn't want to break his heart any more. He took another deep breath, and pulled himself up using his hands, letting his legs hang limp beneath him. He opened the car door, and the rest of the glass splintered, a piece falling and cutting him across the hand. He didn't notice though, his whole body was numb and shaking anyways.
He dragged himself up to the front-passenger door. He opened it, and began to cry hard, a hand over his mouth hanging open. There was little Tori Thompson, drenched in red. Her hair was tangled everywhere, and she was leaning into the airbag that had popped out. He pulled her back with skakey hands, and saw her tiny little face. Swollen and brusing, her eyes were closed, and had no colour in her face. Her tee-shirt was ripped in many spots, and a deep cut was oozing blood from inside it. You could barely see "daddy's girl" written across it.
"Tori..." Morgan gapped, "TORI!"
He shook the little girl, and hoping she would awake. However, she lay there and had no responsive.
"Please..." Morgan begged, "Your life has only just begun please..."
He brushed his hand along her face and it was cold, absolutly freezing.
"Why?" He called out to the open night, "Why god? Why her? She's so young, so little, so innocent..."
"Tori Thompson, my little buddy forever," he said quietly, and hugged her dangling body into a hug, and gave her a little peck on her swollen face. "I will never forget ya hun."
Two tears splashed upon the little girl's face, courtesy of Morgan, as he hesitantly put her lifeless body on the ground.
"You are up with god now, he's calling you back," he said his last words to her, his eyes looking at her bruised closed ones, "I will... I will always love you like a little sister. That's what you were to me."
He shut his eyes and looked away, leaving the tiny Thompson sprawled on the ground, no more breathes going through her once happy, bubbly body.
Chapter 7
Morgan wiped away falling tears, as he slowly rolled away from Tori Thompsons gravestone. On top of it lay a freshly picked daisy, as Morgan symbolized, it stood for her young innocence.
"That was stolen," He added spitfully. Morgan didn't think he would ever be able to forgive god for taking his friends away, when their lives had merely just begun.
He rolled over to the next grave... Jordan McCoy's.
FLASHBACK
Morgan tried to stand up.
"What is wrong with my legs?" He wondered in pain. They just wouldn't work, but he had no time to worry about himself, he needed to help the others.
Morgan pulled himself along the ground using his arms, and looked around. He didn't want to go back in the car... he didn't want to see Danielle's dead body just lying there. He knew he wouldn't be able to stand it. He knew though, that he would go back in the car eventually, he had to get his friends out of the hell hole. Morgan was working up his courage to go back to the car, when he saw a tiny hand out drooping out of a bush. Morgan panicked again, not sure what was instore over there. He dragged himself over to the weeds, and whinced. Morgan knew that the little girl was close to death... from her 'condition'.
"Jordan..." Morgan shook out, and looked over the tiny 11-year-old girl. You see, what happened was not pretty. In the car, Jordan must not have buckled up quite right.
He grabbed her lifeless body up, and was almost instantly covered in blood. She must have been shot out of the car, with no seatbelt holding her down...
She was covered in scrapes and deep cuts all over her body. Morgan could even see shattered pieces of glass around her. Her icy eyes, just stared at him, altough he knew she wasn't alive to see him. He blonde hair, was now soaked a deep red, and her face was drenched as well. Her lips were slowly turning pale blue, the cold snow getting to her.
"Jordan, I can't do anything," Morgan talked to the girl, hoping she heard him from heaven, "I want to help, I want to save you... but I... I... I can't!"
Morgan choked back tears, he wanted to send her to heaven happily, like she has always been.
"I loved you like a little sister," he admitted, "You were always happy, and you... you liked everyone. Never mean, never rude you didn't... you shouldn't be dying!"
Morgan just broke down, mourning the loss of another friend. He put her down slowly after a small hug and a little prayer to send her on her way to the golden gates.
"I'll never forget you Jordan McCoy."
END OF FLASHBACK
Morgan couldn't help but start to cry again. He layed a violet down on her gravestone, praying that she was happy in heaven, causing her hyperness amoung the angels.
He smiled with welling tears in his eyes, picturing this. He remembered the times Jordan and him had had. Disneyland was a blast for them two, but she kept grabbing his ear and dragging him around the park. Her spunky attitude, when the did a little dance show together, when she would always make little wisecracks... Morgan knew Jordan wouldn't want him to be sad for her, she would want him to move on.
"I can't Jordy," He called out to her, "I just can't..."
Morgan wheeled away from her gravestone, and looked to the next one. He choked and instantely had tears streaming down his face. His best friend... AJ Melendez was next.
Chapter 8
"Oh AJ..." Morgan started, as he headed over to his grave stone, "Why you man? Why?"
FLASHBACK - (Morgan's POV is in italics)
I am so scared right now. Three friends... gone. And I haven't even found the others yet! And my legs... they won't move. They're numb and cold... I can't feel them.
Morgan moved on the snowy ground to the car slowly, doubling over sometimes because the physical and emotional pain was too much for a little 12-year-old boy to handle. When he finally got to the car door (smashed, windows completly shattered), he did his best to lift himself back into the vehicle. He looked around again, trying his best to look at Danielle, and moved to the backseat to check on his friends... or what was left of them. That's when he saw one of the worst things a person can see in their life... his best friend, gasping for air, covered in blood.
"AJ!" Morgan yelped unexpectedly, and AJ turned his head as much as he could.
"Morgan.." He gasped. Morgan did his best to kneel down next to his friend and gently held his hand, scared for his friend's life. AJ was barely concieus (sp), but he squeezed Morgan's hands back.
"AJ, you can't DIE!" Morgan told him, then burst into full hysterics. AJ did his best to hug him, his blood covering Morgan's face and body.
"Morgan," AJ choked, "You can't prevent the inevitable, but, if I d... do... di... die Please make sure that everyone else is okay... especially Tori. She's like m... my... little... sister..."
"I... I can't..." Morgan stuttered, tears falling freely from his cheeks, "She's... dead..."
AJ welled tears, out of pain or devestation, Morgan would never know.
"I guess I will see her in heaven then," AJ replied.
"Don't say that, you'll be fine, okay?" He tried to re-assure him. Morgan looked at his friend and saw him growing more pale, and then AJ started coughing up blood, his eyes watering.
"AJ..." Morgan cried, realising he wasn't going to make it. AJ looked him dead in the eyes and said,
"Morgan...never forget that I love you, ok? We'll always be like brothers, and we'll always be best friends. Re.. rememb... remember... I'll... al... always be with you, ok?". Morgan nodded.
"And tell my family... tell my mom and dad... that I love them, alright?" AJ said as his last request. With that, he closed his eyes, head falling back down.
"AJ.... AJ!!" Morgan exclaimed, "Don't go... not you too!"
He broke down finally over his friends dead body, and released all the tears he had been holding inside him.
END OF FLASHBACK
Morgan laid one of his flowers down on AJ's grave. On the grave was inscripted "You'll always be our little boy, don't cause too much trouble in heaven. Forever lives AJ Melendez,".
"Best friends for life..." Morgan said as he rolled away from the polished stone, "I promised you before, and I'll promise you again... I will never forget you".
Chapter 9
Morgan turned away from the gravestone marking AJ's death, and looked away from everything. The Juniors had all been buried on a tall hill, so Morgan could see the sunset perfectly from there, a great view for anyone.
"If only I could enjoy it," Morgan silently said to himself, as he carefully turned around again, and wheeled up to the next grave... Taylor Thompson.
FLASHBACK
Morgan let go of AJ's hand, and knew that his friend had just experienced his last breath. He knew he had to keep going and help the others though, he didn't want to lose anymore of his friends. He looked to his right and closed his eyes. Scared to open them and see who was next... afraid of what he might have to experience again. He said a silent prayer, and hoped God heard him. He was about to open his red, puffy eyes when he heard muffled crying.
"What the..." Morgan said, confused, "Who is..."
He swung his head around, whipping his eyes open. He stared out the window and saw a figure... a girl figure. Morgan manourvered (sp) his way out of the car (avoiding Dani, he just couldn't bear it), and fell out of the car. He landed with an oomph. The crying girl jumped.
"Hello?" she called out.
Taylor... Morgan thought quickly, and stumbled around without the use of his legs over to his maybe-only living friend.
"Taylor!" He called back, "Are... are you okay?"
"Morgan?" she cried, "You're.. you're alive!"
She would of loved to throw his arms around him, but she couldn't move. She stared down at the body where she was kneeling.
"What are you... what are you doing?" Morgan asked frightfully, as Taylor stood up and grabbed a long piece of glass from the shattered windows. It lays so perfectly on the ground, just lying there... Taylor thought. She picked it up and turned back to the little body she was with before.
"Taylor..." Morgan said unsurely, "What are you doing with that glass?"
"Morgan, shut up okay!" she yelled shrilly, "I need to do something, okay?"
Morgan dragged himself closer.
"Taylor, I don't know what you are doing, but put the glass DOWN!" he ordered.
"NO!" she turned around looking at him straight in the eyes, tears pouring down her bloody cheeks, "I am going to die anyways, my head, its spinning, I can hardly see."
She paused and took a deep breath.
"I don't want to be alive if my mom and my sister are dead!" She looked down at the little girl corpse beneath her... Tori Thompson's body.
"She was so young, she was MY SISTER!"
Taylor grabbed her head, as she she fell over to the ground. Morgan looked at her in dis-belief.
She tried her best to get up, but fell back over.
"Look Morgan," Taylor whispered quietly, "I'm going to die anyways, my head is bleeding bad, I have a large cut on my.. my stomach,"
She lurched forward, dizzly tumbling over again.
"It hurts so much," She quietly said to Morgan, "I'm going to end it all now."
Taylor picked up the glass and was about to... when she dropped it on the ground next to her.
"TAYLOR!" Morgan cried out, thinking she had done it.
She fell over beside Tori, and began to cry and shake.
"I'm coming sis," Taylor whispered in pain, "I'm coming Tors. I love you so much."
She closed her eyes, and hoarsely spoke again.
"Morgan... I am... s... so... sorry.. for... yelling..." she tried to speak, "I'm.. so.. scared...."
He tried to rush over to Taylor as quickly as his arms would drag him.
"Tay... you didn't... did you?"
"No," she muffled, "but my... head..."
Her hair was turning red, and blood was spilling out slowly.
"Taylor, don't leave me too!" Morgan cried at her body.
"I have to go," she quietly spoke, "I will see them in heaven. I love you Morgan, don't forget me okay?"
"Never," he answered truthfully, realising there was nothing he could do now, "Just... watch everyone up there for me, tell them I love them so much..."
He kissed Taylor shakily on the cheek, sending her spirit up to the skies with happy thoughts of her friends and family.
"Goodbye Taylor Thompson..." he whimpered.
END OF FLASHBACK
"I should of done it too," Morgan told himself, "I should of tried to get away from it like Tay... oh gosh, if only I could..."
Morgan and Taylor both knew suicide wasn't the answer, but losing so many loved ones instantly, and feeling pain... it made people do crazy things.
Morgan placed one flower down on Taylor's gravestone, praying Tori, her mom and Tay herself met in heaven and were a family again.
Chapter 10
Morgan moved onto the next grave stone dedicated to one of his friends lives that was lost. He looked at the polished rock with sorrowful eyes, and ran his fingers over the inscription.
Lucy Hale an angel back in heaven. Never lose hope, you will always be my baby girl.
Lucy Hale - 1989-2003.
Morgan remembered Lucy’s mom writing that well. At the funeral… she has said exactly that in her speech for her daughter. It was really for him to watch his friend’s mother break down on stage, crying for her child. He had no idea how it felt to lose a daughter, but he knew what it was like to lose a friend.
FLASHBACK
Danielle, Tori, Jordan, AJ, Taylor… who’s next? Please god… how many times must I pray? Please let the rest of my friends be okay…
Morgan looked at the two Thompson sisters together for the last time, side by side, in a pool of thick red blood.
He moved away, almost throwing up at the sight. It was like hell… seeing people you love dying one by one…
He used his arms (which were cut, cold and bruising) to hustle over to the car. He had to get to his friends inside. It could determine their fate…
Morgan got up, and tried hard not to look at AJ or Danielle, though to no avail, and he began to shake again.
He slowly moved past AJ, and into the back seat. Three girls. Morgan didn’t want to cry, he knew it was know help. But like before, the tears began to leak as he cautiously approached the first girl.
Lucy Hale had her sleek brown hair covering her face with seeping red stains. Morgan brushed her fair from her face, whispering to her gently, hoping she would re-gain her conseiusness (sp).
"Lucy... please, wake up," he quietly said, tears brimming, "Not you too."
She didn't move a muscle, didn't breate... didn't react. On her face was red patches of blood, and little tear stains.
"C'mon Luce," Morgan tried again, "Wake up for me, please! Don't die... don't leave your friends... your mom... me!"
Lucy still didn't move, just her cold stare of lifeless-ness in her pale brown eyes. Morgan covered his mouth with his hand, realising that she wasn't going to wake up ever. Tears started to stream, and he cried for the loss of another wonderful person.
Morgan rubbed her shoulder as a goodbye, and gave her a final hug before she was sent to heaven.
Morgan backed away and he felt something cold under his hand... something like metal...
Morgan turned around and picked it up. Lucy's cell phone! He could call the poloce now, an ambulance, anyone for help! He started to dial slowly, and put the crackling phone up to his ear.
"Sorry, your outside the user boundaries, please call your local service for more information," an operated voice echoed through the silent car.
"NO!" Morgan yelled in anger and fustration throwing the useless phone with all his might out the winow. He felt useless and hopeless, and emotional painwaves kept hitting him hard.
He turned back to Lucy, a few tears escaping like before.
"I'm sorry Lucy, I tried," he whispered, and breaking down over her body, "I tried..." he cried out into the cold, dark night.
END OF FLASHBACK
Morgan's memories were hurting him badely.
"Lucy, I never told you before," Morgan spoke out into the windy day, staring at her gravestone, "I never told you that night. I love you, you were a great friend to everyone... and you had so much talent. You were beautiful. I could confide in you, we shared many fun times..."
He stopped for a minute, and remembered those joyus times of fun and laughter,
"You will always be my older sister to me, and I... I love you... and I know you are happy in heaven with everyone else. I just wish I could tell you this face-to-face."
Morgan placed a white rose down in front of her polished stone, symbolizing beauty and forever lasting friendship.
He turned away, the words on the stone glistening in the light "Lucy Hale 1989-2003".
Chapter 11
AT MORGAN'S HOUSE
Zander's P.O.V.
I miss my brother. He used to be so fun, and nice to everyone. He always played with me, and cheered me up when I was sad. And he loved to perform. Now though... all he does is sit around and watch TV. And if not that, he is either in his room begging to be alone. Sometimes, I can hear him cry at night, calling his friends' names one-by-one. The accident has changed him into a different person, and we never play together anymore. I'm sad he can't dance anymore, and he doesn't even like singing with me. And Mommy and Daddy are getting divorced, and they argue so much, and now, they even argue over my brother. My family is gone... I wish I had them back.
AT THE CEMETARY
Morgan looked at the four remaining flowers in his hands. Like so many other times, he knew these flowers would be among all of his friends very soon. He moved on to the next grave stone, and stared at it solemly. Katelyn Tarver's grave already had fresh flowers laid infront of it. Each juniors parent had decided to bury their children along their hopes and dreams, in California, in a beautful cemetary. Some parents decided to move to California to be with them, and others stayed at home, missing the lives of their son our daughter.
Morgan knew their pain, and wanted to be close to his friends as well. After long, debatable arguments, Morgan and his family moved to Cali as well, apart from the fact Morgan would under-go Trauma Therapy there. Morgan knew Katelyn's brother Drew visited her grave often, almost everyday. He missed her just as much as Morgan, and he wanted his sister back.
A soft breeze blew through the crisp morning air, and Morgan closed his eyes. Remembering all the good times with his friends was something he cherised yet hurt him more than words can say.
FLASHBACK
Morgan left Lucy’s side after a few minutes of crying and looked around. Fear of the unknown was really nipping at him, and he was definitely afraid. He looked around the car, seeing blood stains, and smelling the scent of death. He cringed when he saw everyone, and looked around. Chantel… Katelyn… Chauncey…please be okay he prayed again.
Morgan heard a little groan close to him.
“Someone’s alive!” a spark of hope hit him, and he began to pry through the rubble on his right.
He moved a large piece of metal from the chair, and say Katelyn Tarver…
“Oh Katelyn…” Morgan sighed, grabbing her hand.
“Morgan…” she said, it a quiet voice, “Help me… please…”
Her tears were falling freely, and the influenced Morgan to do so as well.
“I think I’m going… to die…” She paused at the last word, shaking terribly.
Morgan looked at his beautiful friend, her crying from pain and fear.
“No… don’t talk crazy…” Morgan replied, “You won’t… I won’t let it happen to you too,”
“Who?” Katelyn asked, shocked.
“Almost everyone!” Morgan hoarsely said, tears coming again, “Tori… her little body just lay there, and AJ… he said he will see everyone in heaven, Luce is gone, and so is Jordan. Tay Tay too… and Danielle… and I don’t know about Chaunc or Chantel yet”
Even with the mention of her name, Morgan shuddered and wanted to trade his own life for hers.
“Morgan…” she added, wincing, “It hurts! Mmm…” she moaned in pain.
“Just hold in there Kate, everything will be okay…”
“Listen… tell my mom I love her… and tell Drew that his little sister will always be with him, and tell Amanda to hang in there, she will be a star. And my daddy… tell him I love him very much,” Katelyn asked of Morgan, “I don’t think I’m going to make it…”
“Katelyn, you will be fine… you will make it!” He said, trying to keep her spirits up.
“Just please… tell them…” Katelyn asked again, “I love you Morgan, I will be in heaven with them all. And don’t worry, we will always be with you.”
“No Katey,” Morgan begged, “Please, don’t leave me too! You are going to be fine… just hold on…”
Katelyn slowly closed her eyes, and leaned back again.
“I love you Morgan Burke…” she said her final words, and her life slipped away.
END OF FLASHBACK
“I can’t hug her, I can’t smell her scented shampoo that always smelled so good in the mornings, and I can’t see her beautiful face anymore…” Morgan thought while going back through all the memories of the accident.
“Oh Katey,” He whispered, looking up at the lit sky, “I sit here, and I don’t know what to say or do, but I can feel you here with me. Please help me. I need you here, you were amazing. I miss you so much. When I looked at you, I could see everything in your eyes. You were so beautiful inside and outside… please, just tell me what to do…”
The wind breezed by again, and Morgan knew his friend was with him.
“If only it was in person Katey…”
[EDIT HERES THE REST]
Chapter 12
Morgan took a deep breath, and wiped away his tears for Katelyn. He closed his eyes, and focused on breathing. He was determined to stop himself from crying... he didn't want his friends to think that he couldn't live without them.
"But I can't," something in the back of his mind piped up, "They were your source of life... without them you're nothing,"
"Shut up!" Morgan accidently said out loud, "I...I...oh..."
He gave up trying to convince himself and opened his eyes again. He whinced because the sun was very bright, although he didn't feel to "sunny" inside.
He continued down the row of misery (as Morgan put it), and came upon the next gravestone...
Chantel Kohl's stone was glistening in the sunlight, the letter illuminating, catching Morgan's attention. He knew those words oh to well... her dad had requested them, but he still refused to believe his little girl was gone.
My baby girl forever. I never meant to let you go... Chantel Kohl 1989-2003
Morgan felt the tears welling up again, but this time for the tradgedy Mr. Kohl had gone through. He remembered the scene at the hospital he had made, demanding to see his daughter...
Morgan dropped a tear, and tried harder then ever to hold them back.
"Help me be strong 'Tel," he said to the gravestone.
FLASHBACK
Morgan was in utter disbelief, not to mention shock, sadness, anger and so much more. He had let seven friends die while he watched.
"and did nothing..." he thought to himself. He wanted to lie down and go to sleep... his head was throbbing and he was so tired...
"I can't," he pushed on, "I have to help them..."
Morgan needed a breather, he needed to get away from the smell of death in the car... it was killing him.
Morgan pried his way out of the car again, and looked up at the sparkling stars in the sky.
"I wish..." he stammered, "I wish that one of my friends will be alright." He closed his eyes and hoped for the best.
He sat down, and leaned against the cold metal of the car. With his eyes still closed he breathed in and out, focusing on only his breathing... and not the horrendous situation.
Chantel... Chauncey... the thought crossed Morgan's mind again in a panic.
Why are you just sitting? Get up! It felt like his consience (sp) was speaking to him!
He slowly rose from the safety of the ground on to his beat up, bleeding and bruised arms, and continued on.
Suddenly he heard a sharp scream.
oh no Morgan jumped, and looked around. He heard another shriek coming from the car, and then he realised, though he wished he didn't, that he had to go back in the vehicle.
He latched his arms on to a car seat, and pulled himself up. He fell over in pain, but then tried again, successfully raising his hurting body into the car.
He was met with another shrill from the backseat, and he went back muttering.
"Hello?" he called out, "Who... Are you... Chantel?"
Morgan's heart began to race. Chantel was sitting up in the seat beside Katelyn's body, crying and screaming. She didn't notice Morgan's arrival, so she continued to cry over her friend's dead body.
"Katelyn!" She let out another scream.
"Chantel!" Morgan yelled loudly, catching her attention.
"Morgan.. I... I... what happened?!" She began to cry harder, holding her head in a dizzy faze, "I woke up from what I thought was dreaming, and I'm met with this!"
She let out a loud sob, and continued.
"Katey! Wake up! Morgan help me!" She demanded.
"She's... she's gone Chantel..." Morgan slowly broke the words to the crying girl.
"No... it's not true..." she said quietly in dis-belief, "It can't be..."
Chantel shook Katelyn's limp body again, "no.."
Morgan moved closer to his mourning friend and patted her on the back.
"I'm just glad you're okay," Morgan admitted to her, "I thought that... I thought I was the only one left."
Chantel looked up at him with her big brown eyes, tears swimming in them and falling down her cheeks.
"You mean..." she whispered, "That K's not the only one...? Morgan PLEASE tell me that the others are okay!"
"I... I can't do that," Morgan began to well up with tears again, "They are all... gone..."
"I can't... I WON'T believe it!" Chantel yelled out, "They have to be okay... this is just a nightmare!"
She began to pinch at her already bloody arm.
"I will wake up!" she cried determinly to herself, "It's... just... a... dream..."
Suddenly, she began fell over, her crying instantely stopping.
"Chantel... CHANTEL!" Morgan yelled, catching her as she fell, "Talk to me!"
She held her head, and slowly spoke in quite a calm matter.
"I don't feel very good..." she said, pain evident in her voice, "It's... I'm..."
She never finished her sentence, as her eyes rolled into the back of her head, and she began to shake uncontrollably.
Morgan gasped in a shock of horror, as she fell from his arms to the floor.
"Tel!" Morgan cried out, hoping that THIS was fake, "You can't go too! You were just talking to me! You're okay!"
He seemed unfazed by the fact that she was gasping for air, and shaking madly on the ground at his limp feet.
"You were okay!" he demanded with anger, crying out to her, "You were going to live!"
He grabbed her body, and lifted her up, her body twitching and stumbling around.
"Chantel!" Morgan yelled out into the night...
END OF FLASHBACK
Morgan laid one of his three remaining flower's onto her gravestone, tears yet again sliding down his red, blotchy cheeks. He remembered all the jokes, the laughs, the friendly arguments, all the good times they had shared... he refused to let go.
"God Chantel, you were my last hope that night," Morgan openly admitted to her, yelling to the heavens, "You were going to make it out..."
His hands covered his face, as he let out a good cry, a few tears falling onto the yellow flower that laid at his feet, in rememberance of a young girl's life lost... Chantel Kohl's.
Chapter 13
Morgan backed away in rolling his wheels away from Chantel's grave. A small gust a wind blew by, and made Morgan shiver. He knew he had a heavy black sweater on, so shouldn't it not affect him... especially on a sunny day?
"Wait a minute..." He thought, and looked up at the sky. The bright, crisp day had suddenly been covered with thick clouds... thunderstorm clouds.
"Reminds me of the accident..." Morgan muttered aimlessly, moving on to the next grave stone.
"Didn't i also wear this black sweater the night of the accident too?" he wondered aloud. "Why does this all seem so familiar?"
Chauncey Matthews - In our hearts forever, shared good times with everyone He read the inscription, and though he felt bad, he wasn't crying.
"Chauncey," Morgan started, "I know we were never really good friends... heck, sometimes you downright hated my guts! But deep down buddy... I... I forgive you. And I hope you forgive me too,"
A small tear traced down Morgan's cheek, as he remembered another lost friend Chauncey...
FLASHBACK
Morgan left Chantel's side finally, after she had stopped shaking, and began ice cold.
"One person left... one last hope," Morgan told himself.
"Don't get your hopes up," The nasty voice in the back of his head began again, "I know I wouldn't."
He ignored it, and slowly got out of the car for what seemed like the billionth time that night.
Morgan looked up at the crystal blue sky, and breathed out slowly. He saw his breath float away in the air... it seemed like it was taking his soul with it.
Morgan moaned, wanting to fall over because the pain was so bad.
"But if I lie down, I may never get up," he convinced himself, and carried on.
"Everyone's gone... everyone... but Chauncey," Morgan's shoulder's rose, remembering the little guy hadn't been found yet.
Morgan stumbled around on his arms looking for him. He was no where to be found! Not on the ground... not in any bushes... and Morgan even went back into the van to look... and no luck.
"No.. no... no!" Morgan cursed, "He couldn't of just got up and walked away...?"
Morgan turned to the large hill the car had tumbled down just that night, and saw a small struggling creature... a boy at the foot of the hill.
Morgan dragged his aching body over through the mud and snow, sticks peircing his arms, shocking Morgan with a slash of pain each time.
He finally reached the foot of what seemed like a muddy horror mountain, and approached Chauncey with caution.
"Chauncey?" he whispered, hoping for a response. A small grunt escaped Chauncey's body, and he began to shiver.
"Are you... are you alright?" Morgan asked, hoping that the boy had enough energy to muster another response.
"I.. I don't know..." a shaky voice filled with groans of pains came out.
"What are you doing? Why are you over here?" Morgan didn't want to see his friends last moments filled with questions, but Morgan didn't really have anything else to say. All he had to do was keep Chauncey distracted off the pain, and he may survive.
Morgan whiped the sweat of his forehead, and was met with more blood, and he himself, was met with a dizzy spell. After a few more seconds, a small, quiet voice came from Chauncey who was sprawled on the ground.
"Gotta help the others..." he managed to make out, as he suddenly lurched with a pain wave hitting him right in the gut.. where his blood was slowly seeming out.
"You have to stay awake," Morgan tried to push him on, "Please don't go..."
Morgan gulped, and felt the need to lie down himself.
"no!" a voice told him again.
"I guess.. I guess I will just talk to you then," Morgan spoke, "You don't have to answer, I just have to get this off my chest..."
Morgan suddenly felt a splash of water on his face. He looked up to the sky and saw that the snow had passed and a freezing rain-sleet mix had started instead. It hissed as it pelted the roof of the car.
"Oh no... not now..." Morgan thought, realising it was the absolute worst time for it to sleet.
"Okay," Morgan returned to Chauncey, and began to speak his mind to him, he just had to get it all out.
"I.. I know that we weren't close at all for the whole competition, and I know that we would fight, hurt one anothers feelings, and act well... stupid... But in turn, it made me feel like you were a little brother. One of those pesky ones, yes, but you still love them deep down. And though we would get mad, and say hurtful things... I just want to let you know..."
A tear escaped the corner of Morgan's eye.
"That... That I forgive you.. and you really are a great guy. I just hope you find it in your heart to forgive me too."
He whiped his eyes, as more tears followed, and he didn't want to make Chauncey sad in what may be his last few precious moments of life.
"I'm.. I'm sorry... I'm Sorry!!" Morgan cried out, wanting Chauncey to respond more than anything.. he couldn't let him die and not know how he felt deep down.
Silence. Morgan began to shake with tears, and yell out to his dying friend more.
"Chauncey! Please! Answer me! I love you, not you too..."
"I.. I.." Chauncey rasped, "I love you too..." and with that, his last breath escaped as his little eyelids shut for the last time.
END OF FLASHBACK
Morgan knew that his all his friends were with him, but yet he still felt so alone. And now as he was at the second last grave stone... he knew that a piece of his heart... actually his whole heart, was missing.
He lay a violet flower down on Chauncey's gravestone, along with a few tears.
"you truely were a good friend," he whispered, closing his eyes and remembering his times with his friend... that were shut away forever now.
Chapter 14
Morgan slowly wheeled away from Chauncey's grave stone. He had visited 10 friends... now only Danielle was left.
Morgan rolled up slowly to her polished rock, and savouring this time... he slowly read her gravestone inscription.
Danielle White - Our Angel in heaven. Mommy, Daddy and Andrew love you forever. In our hearts, Danielle.
Morgan slowly looked down at the red rose in his hand, and it reminded him of Danielle. Her beauty of course, but her innocence as well. Her caring attitude, her cheery smile, just... every little thing about her. Morgan slowly moved himself out of the wheelchair and on to the ground so he was face-to-face with the stone.
"Danielle..." he began, holding tears in.
"Dani.. you were just... the most beautiful person I have ever met in my life. Inside and outside, you were just an amazing friend."
A breath of sadness escaped his trembling lips, and he continued.
"I... just wanted to talk to you, and I really want to see your smiling face. But I can't."
He stopped for a minute as he closed his eyes, and was met with her beautiful face in his mind.
"I loved you with everything I have... I own... my whole heart. I would trade my own life for yours. Hell, I’d give you anything I ever could. Please....God.....just this one thing i ask. Just one....LEt me trade my life for Danielle's...please?" he looked up to Heaven almost expecting an answer but lowered his head when he realized one wasnt forthcoming.
He stopped, and looked up at her grave again, almost expected a sign, a vision, anything just to know she was there!
“No one could ever feel the way I feel right now,” a tear dropped from his lashes, “All I can do is wander around my house, I feel so alone. Without you, I’m just lost…”
“I… I… am just barely scraping by with out you, I am so confused! I want to be with you… no one understands me, my life… I just…why am i the only one alive? It cant be right! ”
He broke down in tears at that moment, staring at the grave, her only remaining place on earth.
“You weren’t supposed to leave! I… I loved you!” He cried in a daze, “You were supposed to grow up, and be a beautiful wife to someone, have beautiful kids… You were… supposed to… LIVE!”
Morgan pounded the grounds with his sweaty fists, slamming the rock into his hands, hoping the physical pain would overcome the emotional pain.
“You’re all I live for, and now you’re… gone…” he added quietly, wishing this was just some sick joke.
“I can’t fake it anymore, I can’t keep trying to please everyone…” Morgan spoke out with tears on his cheeks, “I feel like I’m wasting everything away… unnoticed tears, all bottled up now…”
He rambled on, trying to express his un-imaginable feelings. He couldn’t let them out, he couldn’t express it in words… it was too much.
“I can’t bare anymore nights without you… I can’t live each day knowing your not there…” he returned to her, “I want to be in heaven. I want to be with you guys, all of us together again… US together again…”
The tears continued to come as twists of emotion appeared on his innocent face, looks of sadness, anger, guilt, pain, crushed love…
“Each day goes by… wheeling away is not the same as being able to run… to hug someone… to FEEL again…”
Mentioning the wheelchair he was trapped in brought him a feeling… a twerk he had never felt before. He never talked about it, he had no one to talk too anyways…
“All the doctors… my parents… everyone tries to help… I can’t open up… I just can’t…”
“Danielle, you were that special friend, that special person that never let me down. I know you can’t be here with me… but a part of you will never go away. Just please… do one thing for me…”
Morgan closed his eyes again, hoping he heard his request.
“Tell everyone I love them… and make a wish for me, because I made one for you… I prayed your brilliant smiles, your shining eyes, your life is happy… even if I’m not there to see it…”
Morgan flashed back to the time the Juniors had the farewell dance, and how he had gone outside for some fresh air. How she had come out as well, in her beautiful blue silk dress, and they talked quietly into the night. How Danielle’s favourite song had began to play from inside, and how she insisted they danced. How they danced under the stars that night, how at that exact moment how the whole world had seemed so right.
“How I never knew that you’d ever say goodbye…”
As he said this, he cried harder than he ever thought he could. He cried for her, for his other friends, for his parents, for the refudge he had built around 9 people.
"I loved you Danielle... I always will... and I hope that you still love me too..."
Fresh new tears rose in Morgan's eyes, as he glanced at his black seated wheelchair. The red rose lay there, as Morgan picked it up with shaky hand.
He gently kissed it, and placed it infront of Danielle's grave.
"No one understands," he whispered, "that this is the place I have come to fear the most.
He pulled himself back up in his wheelchair, and a glance of him and Dani at the dance crossed him mind again.
"I could have missed the pain," he slowly spoke, "but I would of missed that dance..."
CHAPTER 15
Morgan sat there with his head down praying silently for what seemed like hours. He was shaken from his trance by the sounds of 2 people crying. He wiped his eyes, sniffled twice and looked up. He saw two teenage girls crouching by an 11th grave. One he had never noticed before. He listened to their sob-filled conversation.
"Oh man, why him. I loved him so much" said Raina.
"It's horrible. My life...How can i go on?" asked Tawny.
They cried and placed flowers on this 11th grave and held onto each other for support. Morgan wondered how he could have never noticed this grave so close to the others before. He felt bad about interrupting the mourners but curiousity got the better of him and he approached them from the side.
"Um..excuse me girls..I-i'm sorry to bother you but i...." started Morgan as he realized they were totally ignoring him.
"He was so handsome" said Raina.
"At least the newspapers said it was quick and not painless. I don't think i could handle knowing he suffered. At least he's up in Heaven and not suffering" said Tawny.
Morgan started again, "Um...i'm sorry girls, it's just i never noticed a grave this close to my friends before. I don't know how i missed it." But once again, they were obliveous to him.
He saw them take a prayer card from a funeral, kiss it and tape it to the headstone with 2 sets of lipstick on it. The 2 girls stood up and walked away each leaning on the other as they got into a car one of their mothers had driven.
Morgan was confused even more now and blamed their rudeness on their grief. He leaned over to look at the prayer card and almost had a heart attack as he read it. Morgan gasped and almost fell over. The card said "In loving memory of Morgan Burke. Laid To rest in the hands of God in the year of 2003."
"N-no..no..what's going on? It has to be a joke. Some mean joke" siad Morgan. He took the prayer card and tore it up and threw it to the ground. He thought of yelling after the 2 girls asking them how they could be so cruel but they were gone already. He looked down the hill as the car was driving away. Morgan was even more upset now and also started filling with rage. He looked for a long time until he saw something. Someone else coming. From the distance he could see it was a female with a white dress on and her hair up in a ponytail. She was coming towards him, this much he knew for sure but he couldnt quite recognize her due to the tears still staining his eyes. He eventually recognized who it was. It was Danielle.
"No..it can't be. I mean..it...it just cant" his mind reasoned out loud.
But it was and she WAS coming his way. Morgan thought he was going crazy. Crazier by the second. The girl who couldn't have been Danielle was coming closer. This is all part of the trick, he thought. That was the only thing it could be.
But as she got closer and closer there was no doubt who it was. It WAS Danielle. She was here...with him..and very much alive too.
"Dani...Dani!!" he shouted, tears pouring from his eyes now.
