What I Have Been Up To...
Well, there has been tons of things for me to write about, but no time to write about them and now most are forgotten. However, I do have some highlights from this half of the semester.
1) Got stuck with the responsibility of thawing and cooking a turkey (which I have never done before) with only 18 hours until the SAI Thanksgiving meal for the music department. Well, the turkey thawing instructions said for it not to be thawed by water but to be placed in the refrigerator to be thawed...for at least 3 days! Well, I didn't have that kind of time, but I did place the turkey in the refrigerator for the night and decided to figure out how to thaw it more in the morning. So, I went to bead and got about 5 hours of sleep and then got up and started brainstorming on how to finish thawing the turkey. I knew I first had to go to classes and then come back and try and thaw the turkey. When I got back I had only 7 hours until the Thanksgiving meal so I was desperate to get the bird cooking. The thawing directions for the turkey also said you could thaw it in the microwave...but it was a 13 pound turkey and in no way would fit in our microwave. So, I had to go against the "don't thaw in water" rule because it was getting down to the wire. The bird needed at least 5 hours to cook and that was after trying to remove the insides and prepare the turkey for cooking. Well, it came down to me running hot water on and inside the turkey...which just felt wrong. But after about 30 minutes of running water on the bird the insides were ready to be removed. I didn't know what I was doing, so I asked Lori (my roommate) if she would remove the bag of stuff from inside the turkey. She was nice enough to say yes and stick her hand all up in the turkey. Thank God for Lori. After the bag was removed, I buttered the skin of the turkey and then added some salt, pepper, and lemon seasoning. Then I placed the bird in the oven for 5 hours (never basting it) and then took it to the Thanksgiving dinner. Luckily everyone said the turkey was great. They said it was moist and many people came back for seconds and thirds of it. So...ha to the people who say not to run water on your chicken to thaw it! Water works just as well as the refrigerator!
2) At the Thanksgiving dinner I served drinks. I asked everyone who was going through the line what they wanted to have to drink. Al was going fun until one of my friends asked me to fix him a cup of Diet Dr. Pepper. I went to open the new 2 liter and half (no really...half) of the bottle spewed all over my shirt. Yuck! I then proceeded to tell everyone else in the line that I was the winner of the wet T-shirt contest. (I was very sticky the rest of the night.)
3) I have been writing to celebrities in my spare time (which isn't much) and trying to see how many autographs I can collect by the end of the school year. In the last 3 weeks I have written over 125 letters and have gotten 2 responses back to far. I got personalized autographs from John Goodman and Colin Firth. Not to bad so far....especially since they are both authentic.
4) I walked into the lunch room on campus a few weeks ago and was walking up to meet my friends at our normal spot. All of a sudden I found myself falling down onto the floor. That's right, I feel on the floor in front of hundreds of people because the floor had a big puddle of water and no sign up of warning. One of the ladies that works in the cafeteria came running up to me and asked if I was ok. I told her I was (besides my now bruised ego...lol). She then came up to me again after I sat down with my friends and asked me again if I was ok. I told her once more that I was fine. Then she went over to another person that works in the cafeteria and proceeded to tell them what happened to me and then was pointing at me for the next few minutes. I think she had to go tell the other worker what a loser I was because I feel in front of hundreds of people (oh, and did I mention that I wore a skirt that day). Yeah for me...the klutz.
5) Oh, and on my way to choir class, after my fateful lunch, a great big gust of wind came on and lucky me, blew my skirt up in Marilyn Monroe fashion. And so that is how my luck continued throughout that day....lucky for me, I have now completely numbed myself from all embarrassment.
6) I have found a new love for musicals. I loved the movie/musical Rent and I bought the soundtrack for the movie after having seen the movie for the first time. The music is so much fun and beautifully written. I think it would be lots of fun to act in the play on Broadway. And there is one character in particular, in the movie, that I told my friends that I think would be fun to play on stage. I said it was because she is both bold and sexy. My friends told me I could never play that part because I am cute and that is the only way people will ever see me. I can't even pretend to be someone sexy and bold...I can only pull off being cute. Great....
7) I finished all my Christmas shopping early and even bought a thing or two for myself...and my friends proceeded to give me a lot of great presents...the things I already bought myself. I bought the Sex and the City Ultimate Collection (it was on sale) and my friend Heather had already bought me the 6th season of the show for me for Christmas...oops. And my friends Sadora and Lori both got me the Sex and the City trivia game...I already got myself the travel version of the game...lol. Oh well, I now have 3 copied of the trivia game and an abundance of the Sex and the City DVDs for season 6.
Well, that is all I can think of that sticks out in my mind from this last part of the semester. I hope you at least find as much amusement in my life as I do. =D
