I took my dad out to lunch today. Our choice of topic (like it seems to be at most dinners and lunches here) religion. He explained this to me.
In the Doctrine and Covenants (for those who aren't familiar is part of the Book of Mormon) Section 82:8-10 is states.
8 And again, I say unto you, I give unto you a new• commandment, that you may understand my will concerning you;
9 Or, in other words, I give unto you directions how you may act• before me, that it may turn• to you for your salvation.
10 I, the Lord, am abound• when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.
So what does this exactly mean? It means that not by only the grace of God you are saved. It gives you "direction" you are obliged to fallow in order to receive some sort of promise.
I never really understood this series of verses and now that i do, it seems pretty ridiculous. I believe that by just your acceptance of Jesus and grace you are saved. Not by this type of ladder you are supposed to climb. Things you have to do. Tithing and temples.
my point is: You don't have to do anything but accept really. belive. praise and love.
i'm happy now. happy in knowing that i have filled a big part of me that was missing. thank you parents for being so so great. for having the courage to do something life changing. thank you for guiding me with your truth. thank you for loving me.
