Freaky Wal-Mart

Mar 19, 2007 23:04

This week, there's a couple blog entries relating to Walmart, one about drug prices (from the Freakonomics blog), and another relating their plans to create scorecards for electronics.

This is huge. From the comments on the Freakonomics blog, it looks like some pharmacists are already being forced to respond to the price drops. As for electronics - well, I'd love to see some reduction in toxic chemicals used in this area. However, no matter how big, I don't believe a single company can actually transform that sector. I'm guessing that the EU's regulations will have a bigger impact. Maybe Walmart will take some of the credit for that, and use it as part of its new branding as a green company.

I've posted before about Walmart, but never actively tried to get much information about the company. I'm putting it in the tickler file.

Dear readers, any resources I should absolutely read on the behemoth?
