I still can't believe it...I went to Buenos Aires Fashion Week!
I'm far from being a fashion follower, I don't spend much money on clothing, and if I do, they are definitely not designer clothes or stuff from a well known brand (my clothing is generic, lol), so you can imagine how surprised were the people who know me when I told them! The thing is that my Mom had free tickets because of her credit card, so we thought "why not?", stopped being so judgemental for a while and decided to go. In my defense, it was too early in the morning to give it a second thought :P And a great excuse to see two of my best secondary school friends, Dani and Esme, who hadn't been to a Fashion event before but are a bit more into fashion than me (and in Esme's case, a LOT more into fashion than me!)
First of all, I got to say that even if it has become an important event round here, Buenos Aires Fashion Week is nothing compared to similar events in other cities. For instance, it doesn't even last a week, but only 3 days!Come on! I mean, I have to admit that I had a good time, but I wouldn't go again if I had to pay in order to enter. And queueing for so long to get to see a show that lasts so little is just frustrating. My feet hurt so much that day (and by that day I mean Wednesday, forgot to tell^^')!
So now that you've read my complaints, I'll tell you a bit more about the place & all that jazz.
First pro: it was only 7 blocks away from my Mom's, so I didn't have to travel so much, lol.
Second one: there was a stand full of art books in English! Unbelievable! Of course, they were ubber expensive because they were imported, but they had some "sales" which I could take advantage of if I save some money, so I'm thinking of going to the book store someday- which btw, is 6 blocks away from my college, awesome!(I still can't believe how I nver noticed its presence before, though^^')
Third one: as I've already said, I did had fun, partly because it had been a while since I had last seen them (like a month and a half, aproximately). We checked out every single so called showroom (it has become a popular word here, and I hate it, it sounds so snobbish to use English terms when you have a word that means the same in Spanish!), had something to bite, tried on some make up and perfume (and had free samples of the perfume, yay! It was SO good!), had free fashion magazines (yay for free stuff, of course!), participated on several raffles we obviously didn't win, and got to see 2 fashion shows, which I both liked. One was from Mariana Dappiano, a designer who used no more than 3 or 4 fabrics to create a wide variety of outfits, from trousers and shirts to dresses and even coats! It was a weird show, because the music was played by a girl at the side of the runway, but it was quite smooth, jut her soft girly voice and her guitar, a thing I would've never imagine on a fashion show. The other one was more "normal" in that sense, and it was from Prüne, a brand that produces amazing leather purses and not so amazing shoes. I want a leather purse now, but they're so expensive! I'm tired of my old plastic/cloth handbags, I want a real purse! Gosh, I never thought this would happen to me, now I have purse cravings! Help me!
(Wanted to post some pictures of the shows, but the BAFW website hasn't been updated, and Esme's pictures came out too dark to apreciate anything. Oh well, some other entry will be the lucky one...)
